Re: Former sWc Schools - Hate Rankings
In my mind you can't both hate A&M and Texas. I hate Texas with a passion, so I have a little grudging respect for the Aggies. Hell, I kind of feel patriotic liking the Aggies a little (i.e. pickup trucks and American Flags in College Station versus rusted Volvos and female armpit hair in Austin).

In fact for a period of time it looked very bleak for Baylor until the Big 12 got back on its feet.
I am not defending them per se, just saying what has been said of UT is equally true of A&M. I am shocked how few Mustangs will hold them to the same standard they hold UT to.
The "they were invited" thing is just revisionist B.S. - UT could have very easily created a true Big 12 network (like A&M is going to partner with UT to create the Longhorn network - right!!) with the help of their conference-mates and created something that had value and actually unified their conference - just like the Big 10 did. You didnt see big ten trying to name it the michagan netwrok did you? UT pigged it to death and ultimately created something that is obviously a failure and not sustainable. ESPN will figure out how to wiggle out of it - they arent goint to drive it into a wall for ten years.
Actually it's not revisionist bs.

It was widely reported and their declining it caused a BIG slowdown in the process on UT's end.
Also as for the Big 12 network. Here is what happened. Teams tossed the idea around. Schools disagreed on revenue sharing. UT, ATM, NU, CU, OU all wanted more revenue to the big schools. Others disagreed. Once again A&M, Nebraska, and OU were right in lock step with UT's vote.
Voted down 11-1 since they couldn't agree and they didn't think it was profitable for a long time if ever.
UT then considered other options. Asked A&M if they wanted to partner on a Lone Start network, A&M said no.
At that point UT went it alone.
UT isn't some 100% team player but given the circumstances the LHN is hardly the cloak and dagger story ags tell it as.
A&M made a very rational decison that they were in a partnership with someone who doesnt know how to act like a partner. You will come to that same decision - and the folks at Baylor that ar ein the know probably already know this, but of course you dont have a choice as long as you are in that conference - and its the best available conference so you just live with it.
Be worried - you are only one UT better deal away from asking us for BE membership.
A&M wanted something they thought was a better deal for them. That part I don't have a problem with.
They put the anti-ut pr stuff out as cover as 90% of their objections had been dealt with. They put out anti-Big 12 and anti-BU stuff and practically tried to burn the conference to the ground. That I do have a problem with.
Before anyone replies with an uninformed "but BU sued to keep them!", we didn't. We along with KSU and ISU refused to waive our right to sue. It came out in the news about A&M but it was a "we will fire every legal weapon if this falls apart" warning to the SEC, PAC, or anyone else that if you take a Big 12 team it had better be in a way that doesn't shatter the league or else you are on the hook for damages. So in a sense it was aimed more at OU's flirting with the PAC12 than anything else. If the league holds we could care less about the ags. If it didn't we'd care a lot.
As for a "UT better deal". Every school had signed a 6 year grant of rights. The TV rights to all but one broadcast belong to the league now for that term. Good luck leaving for any profitable move. 13 year GOR is part of the new TV deal that will be finalized soon but technically isn't done yet.
Before someone brings up "couldn't they dissolve the league?". Depending on who you ask it's either 51% or 75% vote to dissolve it.
You'd need:
Texas, OU, OSU, Tech, + 2 to find homes at minimum and probably all but two teams. KU has bleak prospects as does KSU and ISU. TCU & BU aren't going anywhere. WVU is very unlikely to go anywhere as well unless the SEC somehow can't get a 2nd ACC team if they went to 16. Getting all that with a GOR in place is a 1% shot.

Re: Former sWc Schools - Hate Rankings
Tech, even their students refer to it as the 13th grade, they reported us and started the investigation; Baylor is a third rate private, that produced that idiot Ann Richards, U of H is a commuter school, Rice is "nice"; A&M who can hate a cult that raised the academic standards of two conferences--leaving the Big 12 and joining the SEC; TCU showed us the way, but hired Fatter-son, all reasons to dislike--but they will alway be only ONE
The steers--who begins life thinking they are better than anyone else, then castrates their school mascot?

Re: Former sWc Schools - Hate Rankings
UT is number 1 on my list. Next would be Houston (no class at all). Then would come Arkansas (can you say Frank Broyles and Lou Holtz). I really don't hate TCU or Baylor or Rice. I've always felt that the private schools had a lot more in common. Yeah, Baylor is more religious and lucky, TCU's campus looks like a dorm toilet on Saturday morning. And Rice is wierd, but I always liked Rice folks. Aggies and Tech are in the middle like two peas in a pod to me. And I love calling Tech folks, "Sand Aggies", that really ticks them off.

texasjeremy--just another reason to hate Texas.
Son, don't you understand this is a Hate Ranking, not a formal rating service. You must of smoked too much of that Austin Hubbly Bubbly when you were there.

Re: Former sWc Schools - Hate Rankings
Texas A&M has the most obnoxious fan base I've ever encountered. Texas Tech and their tortilla throwing antics at football games in the nineties was obnoxious as well. There are exceptions to every rule, but on average Tech fans are [deleted], while A&M fans are cult-members.
I think the Texas private schools have more in common than not. Baylor has been in an odd place competing with all state schools in the Big XII. I'm glad TCU is joining. Hope SMU joins sometime as well.

From what Art Briles says about old rivalries, our series with Baylor may be coming to an end. Being that coaches tend to have the upper hand on who their teams play, we may be looking for a replacement someday soon. Hope not but then again - I just hope we don't get a cream puff but a "real team" with some stature that will help put us on the map.
JJ would have no problem playing a non-conference schedule of SFA, UTA, UTSA & some other 1-AA school to win games. He even joked about that's what you schedule to have a shot at 12-0 at the kickoff luncheon. Look at that non-conference schedule the year Hawaii went 12-0...........

Re: Former sWc Schools - Hate Rankings
1 - TCU for personal reasons only, my brother played football there and a lot of friends from my home town have taken up their banner (my father attended SMU but has become annoyingly neutral) ... they were expendable during my time on the Hilltop.... but lately it sure is sweet to beat 'em.
2 - Texas - because I'm reading Pony Trap by David Blewett and realizing how much they might have played a hand in the death penalty being dispensed to SMU... and when I went to SMU they were the prize.. although I must say it's hard to feel any kind of feelings towards a faceless football factory.
3 - A&M - tough crowd to play a game against, even when they come to OUR stadium. I sure hope we have a bigger crowd than them in the Ford this year.
Texas Tech and Houston don't deserve comments.
Baylor is icky and also doesn't deserve comments but it does earn a special mention by itself.
Arkansas - too far back to remember even though we played them when I was a student at SMU.
Rice - we should emulate their academics and maintain the ties.
One final comment to Eastdallasloco (if you read it), lay off the "queer" comments because there are people on this board who are from all stripes that support SMU. I am gay and I bleed Red and Blue; and I might add that if we want SMU to really rise up in the rankings of pre-eminent universities, that type of mentality will impede the process. And I welcome your response, my name is James Cribbs (BBA 1980) I will not hide behind a pseudonym.

I don't think he meant it that way. Nor does he want to meet you.
Of course gay people support SMU (as the do for every school). You're being overly dramatic.
Re: Former sWc Schools - Hate Rankings
Houston - hands down has my vote for most hated school.
The low class 98 point game is reason enough to hate them
Also, I can see my kids going to any SWC school but UH.
