New Helmet Rule

Post by 82Pony »

Is it just me or are defenses purposely going after players helmets tying to rip them off. In just the first week of the season I can't count how many helmets I've seen ripped and knocked off players heads. Baylor seemed to be blatantly going after our players heads/helmets. I assume to take the player out of the game for a play or get the penalty for continuing to play without a helmet. If so, this new rule is backfiring. Anyone else notice this?

I noticed it a few times this weekend. I believe that the player is allowed to stay in the game if the helmet is ripped off by the facemask, but I noticed that a lot of teams were trying to wrap ball carriers up around their hear. One game in particular was the Clemson-Auburn game where Auburn players ripped off Taj Boyd's helmet 2 or 3 times when he was running the ball

I like it. Most of the plays I've seen where it happened, the guy had his chinstrap unbuttoned. Coaches need to make sure their players are wearing the equipment correctly. That will improve safety, and I think we'll stop seeing helmets coming off all the time in a couple years. It had gotten so out of hand in the last few years.

I noticed Gilbert has the added protection of a mouth piece on the top of his helmet.

They should make clothes-lining a penatly if is is used as much as I am seeing. Someone could get their neck broken by clothes-lining.
