Say what you want about Bobby Petrino, that guy can flat out coach and should be at the top of our searchlist if JJ retires. He is an offensive genius, Tom Coughlin called him the smartest playcaller he's ever been around, and Tom Coughlin has two SB rings. He's not that old, just turned 51 in March. Yeah, he's an [deleted], but we're not interviewing for deacons at HPUMC here. I'd make sure his buyout to leave is hefty though- he can't seem to stay anywhere for very long. But we could do a LOT worse than Bobby Petrino- we'd be lucky to have him.

Pretty good recruiter as well.

He is positioning for much bigger opportunities such as Tennessee, but I agree, we could be a good stepping stone for his return if Jones were to leave.

Actually, I don't think recruiting is really his strong suit- check out some of Arkansas' recent classes- they were not as highly regarded as other big SEC programs like Alabama, Auburn, LSU, etc. But I have no problem believing he could recruit on par with TCU, TTU, Baylor, etc for Texas talent.

Really doubt that another major program like the Vols would take a gamble on him- guy is somewhat of damaged goods after the Falcons fiasco and the mess he left in Fayetteville. I really don't think he could come into a situation with a major program and recruit elite talent, and the powers that be at those schools know that. But again, he can coach with the best of them and was very impressive (W-L wise) in his previous stints at Louisville and Arkansas. I like JJ and I hope he has a successful season, but if for whatever reason he's not around next year, Bobby Petrino should get a call from us ASAP.
My other choice would be Sonny Dykes, but I think he's going to Lubbock if they get rid of Tubberville.

I think Dykes is going to Lubbock if Tubberville is fired.

Petrino recently came out and made a very public, heartfelt apology for his actions. He had the Arkansas faithful wanting to forgive him and hire him back, which of course will not happen, but it was a major step in positioning himself for a new job, and rumors are Tennessee is thinking.

What rumors? I'll wear a fedora hat in public if Bobby Petrino is the head coach at Tennessee next season. If they fire Dooley, the pressure will be on Papa Hart to replace him with a big name who can recruit and build them back into a top-tier program- not someone with baggage who has had difficulty recruiting elite classes within the SEC- see the class Arkansas had committed after NSD this year- only two Rivals 4 stars. I do, however, think Petrino would do very well here in the Big East since you don't have to necessarily have a top 15 recruiting class every year to keep up, and he's a hell of a coach.

For sure. I just don't see Tennessee taking that risk, especially after Kiffin. For all we know, Dooley's job might be safe for another year- they didn't look half bad against NC State on Friday. If JJ leaves after this season, I'll pick Bobby Petrino up at the airport for his interview with Rick and RGT.

The Tennessee talk has been going on for a while. It appears, and I am certainly not tuned in with Tennessee, that Dooley's seat is very hot. The rumors come 3rd hand from local radio sports gurus who tend to know more than me but I am sure not on the inside. Anyway, I started advocating Petrino as soon as Arkansas let him go, contingent on Jones being gone of course.

Dooley keeps his job if he wins at least 8, I think. Four coaches in six years is something they're trying to avoid in Knoxville, provided Dooley shows some progress. If he's out, I think Kirby Smart would be Papa Hart's #1 choice.
I am obviously a big JJ fan but would be all aboard with Bobby P- given his recent scandal, would be still demand $2M +?

Word I hear (again just rumors) is his next job will not demand as much as his past. That is why I thought we could be a good stepping stone for him. But having he and Larry Brown both here could cause a hurricane when they hit the revolving doors.
