Baylor Student Section
1. As stupid as they look in their intramural football jerseys, it sure looks good on TV to have 2 full sections filled with one color and packed with students. I have heard from Baylor friends, that for the first game it is primarily freshman who will thin dramatically as the season goes on, but impressive none the less.
2. How is Baylor allowed to have their student sections essentially to the 45 yard line? I think our student section ends around the 30. I thought there was an NCAA rule prohibiting student sections from being behind the visitors bench. Wasn't it several years ago when we played a Wed. night game on Halloween (for ESPN), and we let the students have the 50 yard line section, but had to get a waiver from the NCAA?

I believe the seating rule is a CUSA rule. Not sure but I thought that was mentioned in the past.

Have to say our section, with most in red, looked good on t.v., too.

The Milk and Cookie Boys and Girls were pretty impressive. Good for them. They sat in that Sun for an hour before the Game-I thought a few might not make it through the game.

I saw several people with heat sickness problems near the concessions. Several people having to have wet towels put around them, or sitting down with friends bringing them water.
One SMU girl fell near the section entrance right in front of us and buster her head up and had to be taken away on a stretcher.
It was damn hot. Told my girlfriend if she gets drunk before the game, it would make sitting in the sun that much more miserable. She didn't listen and spent the whole first half underneath lol.
I will admit I left at half once Baylor had made it a three score game anyway. I have been an SMU fan long enough to know SMU doesn't make comebacks.

1.) The ones in the yellow shirts are only freshmen. They always do great week 1 and then they realize they get better seats by not running. Supposedly the new stadium will have separate seating for the line so they won't be able to skip the run.
2.) It goes by conference. Our student section runs from the 45 across the 50 to the endzone. During college I sat for 4 years on the 50 yardline...of course we sucked for the first 3 years of it so it wasn't that awesome.

Re: Baylor Student Section
It was unbelievable how disrespectful the students in the end zone were before the game - yelling and screaming and cavorting about while SMU was singing Varsity!
You would think they would have the pregame timing down to avoid having them enter the stadium during the visitor's alma mater. It's not like they haven't done this before. If the pregame stuff is running late than for heaven's sake delay the entrance of the students to avoid such a catastrophe!
Plus, especially at Baylor, you would think "do unto others" would kick in!
I also didn't understand why they used "Welcome To The Jungle" on third downs. Other than the fact the song is by a band that was heavy in to drinking and drugs, it is also a song that is close to 20 years old and extremely unhip.
Of course, the fans really got into it the first time but each time they did it they fans got less and less interested which was pretty funny. Maybe they realized it wasn't doing any good and was just a waste of energy since SMU went 12 of 20 on 3rd downs!!! One of the few things we did well.
Overall though, a vast majority of the Baylor fans were very nice and friendly. I just hope when they play here next year we treat them with a lot more respect.

Question about this- is there an NCAA rule on how long you can blare music before a snap? Seemed to me like the music was blaring during our third downs until just a few seconds before the snap

Their band was playing while our team was in the huddle too.
They also played music over the sound system while one of our players was down injured!
I guess they don't really live by The Golden Rule.

If it interferes with the signals of the offense, it is a penalty. However, the coach of the team infringed upon often has to request that the penalty be called. This has also been a problem in the past and June didn't do anything about it then, either.

Why on Earth wouldn't you say something? Maybe JJ did, I don't know. Not sure how many presnap adjustments we were making, but the music was playing while the play clock was running several times.

This is how it is done in the Big XII. Maybe SMU should try it at home.
Living by the Golden Rule in football would mean letting the other team score on every possession. It doesn't really work that way.

Bands played unrestricted all game until what, the 80s? Unless the stadium music is super loud or you are right in front of a band it couldnt be worse than the crowd. Nothing to complain about.
