The penalty against them was a convenience to the NCAA,,,criminal and civil, yes, but NCAA happily jumped on a bandwagon that suited it's purpose. The program should have been shut down by the school, not by threat of the NCAA.

That said, (and perhaps in the minority here) the players that are going through this year and the scrutiny and criticism that they will endure is in my thinking to be admired rather than condemned,
Their players aren't going through anything except the loss of bowl game opportunities and championships...their school and the media rallied around the players. Then the NCAA flew in and piled on with PR penalties that will have no long term affect.

These guys institutionally covered up repeated child rapes...but we are trotted out as the bad guys. I seethe.

how do you figure they aren't going to suffer long term affects-this is going to take a long long time to recover-the real effects will be felt in Year 3-4. Only then will they really be able to begin the rebuilding process

Only 9 Penn State players transferred (that's what I read), still have good coaches, still have community and fan support, still in a great conference, program itself is not tarnished sufficiently to prevent great recruits going forward (my opinion), school itself still wants a great football program and will do what it takes to have one.

Our penalty wasn't just the suspension of a season....we lost all players and coaches, lost community and fan support, lost great conference, couldn't recruit (some say...still can't), and our school struggled for years (decades?) deciding whether we wanted a good football program again and didn't do anything during those years to ensure a winning effort.

My opinion...we made Death Penalty much worse than it had to be...Penn State will not make that mistake.

90% of the death penalty was what we self imposed. Truly scary the damage PC can wreck on an institution
