Old SMU Football Rosters

Postby mustangbill67 » Fri Feb 11, 2005 2:48 pm

Does anyone know where I might find SMU football rosters for the 1930's and 1940's? I am looking for info on a cousin (once removed) who I understand played in the late 30's or early 40's.

Yes, Zeke Everheart worked for that food company. His dad had been a wholesale grocer in Sherman and Zeke had played for the Sherman Bobcats. Actually I just found his obit. He died in 1997. I had talked to him several times before his death but never got the details on his days at SMU. We had talked about attending some games together but he died unexpectedly. His obit says he played for Matty Bell in 1938 and 1939 before joining the Army in 1940 for the European Campaign during WWII. I know he was a letterman but I do not know what position he played or whether he received any SWC recognition. I know one thing, he died a loyal Mustang.

That is strange. As I recall, back in the mid 1990's the Mustang Club used to do newsletters and one of the letters had a notice that Zeke had died (this was at least a year before he actually died). This notice was under a column concerning lettermen. I called Zeke to advise him of him premature death and he told me he would contact the lettermens association to clear this up. BTW, it is "Everheart".

I will go to the library and check out some old Rotunda's.
