Yeah I think the real point is that they built THE WINNIEST FOOTBALL PROGRAM in the Country several years AFTER they began to fill the stadium. Empty seats build no momentum. Mustang Mania began in 1977-SMU didn't win until several years later but recruiting responded to the excitement created by Mustang Mania. We don't get Eric Dickerson/James et al without addressing attendance.

Are you saying the $$$ didn't help get those guys.....or numerous other players during that time?

Stallion is dead on with his comment about attendance and recruiting. It shouldn't be that hard to pack 30k per game into Ford and show prospective recruits a more exciting game day atmosphere. If we want to compete with the big boys for talent, bringing kids in to see Ford half empty isn't going to help

Aren't you the one that wants to kick people off the Blvd for wanting free food? But now you want to give away tickets when those of us that are loyal fans have to pay up to $1,000 just to have the right to buy tickets. Give some away to some local youth groups for fan development, but other than that, get a product and market it properly to bring in a paying base.

Why not require a ticket to tailgate? Shut the booze off and tailgateing at game time...

Yes Stallion...that was my point...they built excitement...then they started winning. Meyer and Potts were salesmen. Forget the free aspect of the tickets...they were relentless in selling SMU. I don't see anybody selling SMU now, and I don't think billboards on Central count. June is just not a salesman.

Regarding $$$ for players...please. I was there...SMU operated in a consistent manner with all the other SWC schools. In one sense you are correct though...we had to at least match what the rest of the conference was doing to be in the game.
