SMU Legacy(?) Commits to UT

Postby Stallion » Tue Feb 15, 2005 1:57 pm

wasn't that LM Buck Burnette 6-3,310 from Wimberley, who became UT's first commit of the 2006 recruiting year, the son of SMU alumnus Grady Burnette?

I saw that. Aren't they 3A. Seems strange that their first commit is from a small school. Must be good.
The attitude dictates that you don't care whether she comes, stays, lays, or prays. I mean whatever happens, your toes are still tappin'. Now when you got that, then you have the attitude.

He was in our camp last year too. Russell Carter's son, Grady Burnett's son, and Craig James son isn't to interested, alot of tradition and history going elsewhere. Makes me sick!!! :(

Anyone know that "Craig" is James' middle name? His first name -- Jesse. As in .... Jesse James.

Buck is a good player and we wish all our former players offspring well.

Grady is still a good Mustang and will only have to have the color orange in his wardrobe for a few years. This , too, shall pass.

It'll pass, but is there ever going to be anybody who says SMU was good to me, I want my highly recruited son to play there. Wheres the pride? This kid probably grew up a UT fan. Geez, I'd probably send my kid to Duke or Stanford rather than SMU on scholarship if given the chance, but UT? Nah. NFL scouts can find Ford Stadium too, ask Kevin Garrett.

I know Matt Williams is a good player and legacy, but had he been higher profile I wonder if he would have ended up at SMU.

If a kid is 17 years old why should he want to go to SMU when SMU has not done what is necessary to compete. Kids are embarrassed their father's went to SMU-and many of you know it. There is no kid who has ever seen SMU play in a bowl game, win a championship or even play a meaningful football game. How many of you would have gone to SMU if you knew they were going to play Ivy League caliber football. Add Michael Carter's daughter to the list who went elsewhere. Carter is nationally recognized in Track & Field.

stallion - your posts are evolving from realistic to loser-like. Things are getting better and you have admitted as much, so save the wallow in negativity routine, you don't even believe it yourself - and even though you think it makes you sound superior and intelligent, actually the opposite is true.

The thing about 'ol Stallion is I believe he thinks he is a supporter but it appears to me he does absolutely nothing to support the school. His posts are always about something the school should have done or hasn't done or needs to do or how somebody outrecruited us because Rivals states something. Stallion, other than buying tickets and going to the games, which I will presume you at least do that, do you financially give to the Mustang Club? Stallion, have you had discussions with Jim Copeland, Phil Bennett or any of the coaches of any of the sports about your opinions and how you feel or do you just hide all of you badgering behind the cover of this webpage? I think I know the answer to both of my questions.

What has gotten better? In football, the team still wins only 2-4 games a year just like it has every year since 1989 except for the one winning season. The only thing that really seems to be getting better are the bank accounts of our athletic director and head football coach. So far, Bennett has not delivered any better results than the 3 coaches before him. I guess he did deliver that 0-12 season which Gregg, Rossley or Cavan were not able to do.

Things that are trending better-

1. Schedule
2. Conference
3. Athletic admission standards (i.e. more accomodating)
4. Recruiting
5. JUCO admissions
6. on field play

If you can't pick up on the direction of the trends maybe sports just aren't for you. Try chess or something.
