Some interesting choices. I never saw Benners play but I did see all the rest mentioned and was in school with Meredith. None of those mentioned brought the crowd to it's feet like Meredith. You simply had to have been there. We were called "Southern Meredith University" in some circles and Meredith justified the name.
Long live Inez Perez!

BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

Re: Favorite SMU QB and RB of all time
As seen in person:
QB - lance
Close second a guy that needs to get more respect, Don King. Could run and pass, and had a great record as QB. I think he gets overlooked due to Lance's success.
RB - Reggie Dupard
Did I give away when I went to school.
All time:
QB - Benners
RB - Doak
HM to Bobby Wilson, who has a national championship to his name.

I was just inches away from choosing Craig James at RB. He may have been my favorite player at the time, and I still have the #32 Russell sweatshirt I bought over at the old Athletic Supply on Mockingbird.

I watched him single handedly beat Plano HS in the state championship game at the Astrodome.

Forgot about that tandem of Hixson & Richardson. But you're right - that was a great one!!!

Great choices but you need to include the 1950 Ohio State game for Fred also. Beat the Buckeyes in Columbus, in front of 80,000, with a last minute pass to Ben White. We have a picture of the catch, taken by the great Jim Laughead, on the Heritage Hall website. This win moved the Ponies to Number 1 in the country the next week. Kyle Rote was our running back and the Buckeyes featured soon to be Heisman winner Vic Janowicz.
50's- I was at that game. Benners absolutely shredded the Buckeye defense the second half. Rote and Johnny Champion had great games as well. IIRC the final score was 32-27. Still have a game program autographed by most of the SMU players from that game.
