Has the team quit on Jones?

Post by couch 'em »

Or never had him back after ASU?

So many claiming the team played uninspired and soft.

The board feels like Bennett's last year

Has Jones quit on the team? If so, then yes, the team quit on Jones.

Agree on all points. I remember hearing that the players were pretty PO'd with Jones last year and I think the distrust is carrying over.

I really hope RGT, Hart, and the CoC understand this and press Jones that it's time to move on. We need a fresh face in charge badly. If he stays another year I think we are lucky to win 2 games next season with the schedule we have...might not matter at this point, honestly, as we'll probably do no better than that anyway.

As I type that, it is probably the best reason of all that JJ will be gone. He doesn't want to be seen as the guy who took six years to build a team that wins 2 games in the Big East. The problem is that we probably will win a few more this year in a terrible CUSA and maybe even play in a crap bowl, which will please enough people at the school to a point that they won't care if he chooses to stick around.

it will take someone with a pair to step up and fire the guy that lead us out of the desert. It wont look like a great decision at first, but it has to be done.

also - time to buy out or otherwise loosen up next yrs schedule It is not a good idea.

I think the quit is mutual- the team has quit on him and he has quit on them.

No one in a position of authority will step up on this, especially if we go 7-5 and get to another bowl. But the fact of the matter is that it would probably be good for both parties. June could could retire to the islands and SMU is now attractive enough to get an up and coming high energy coach.

When you go for a FG down 27 points inside your 10 yard line...then yes the coaches gave up on them., and guess what they probably quit after that.

Remember too. SMU was actually on the 3 yard line. June sends on FG Kicking team when were on the 3 yard line losing 27-0. Then we got a 5 yard penalty. Does June have a long record for not getting shut out he was protecting?

No, I don't think the team has given up. We are overmatched against some teams. Some people think that just because we are SMU, we should win 8-10 games a year. Reality is we have a coach who does not prioritize well, isn't hungry, and is able to maintain security (2 mil a year) by winning 7 games and taking the team to a lower tier bowl. He knows it, and some of us know it. Most are drinking his koo-laide.

I didn't see any quit until it was obvious we weren't going to compete with these guys. I was very impressed with how hard the defense fought in that 1st quarter. This team is very fragile and once things go bad and they "know" they aren't supposed to win, they play like it.

TCU game is going to be much more telling than these fiascos against Baylor and A&M were

looks like the Cowboys are quitters today. Not really, when it starts going badly during a game and things look bleak, its hard to stop the landslide. I don't think there is any quit in the Mustangs really, we might have a trust and cohesiveness issue stemming back to the ASU affair though.
