Looks like Hawaii knew what we know about June....

Post by ponyscott »

Wow from deep in UH lore and just sub SMU for Hawaii in the post:

http://www.sportshawaii.com/sh/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1400

From November 14, 2004

"Fire June Jones!

June Jones is a bum.

His run-and-[deleted] offense has been figured out.

It no longer puts fear in opponents.

He has no idea how to recruit.

He gives scholarships to the whole world.

His idea of recruiting is going up the road and checking out the golf team or the women's water polo team.

And guess what "They all have a chance to play on Sundays."

"This is the best recruiting class ever."

Hawaii has no athletes!

I thought when June Jones took over we were going to the "next level."

I also thought he would be able to attract some blue chip athletes especially on offense.

Chad Owens is a nice WAC player, but come on now there's a reason why he had to walk on first.

He would get smashed in other conferences.

I can't believe that in his 6th year we've had such poor athletes at the WR postioins.

If your gonna have a pass-pass-pass offense, at least get some
bigger recievrs like 6'2-6'4 on the outside so they can stretch the
field and make the big play.

This offense only works against inferior opponents.

When it doesn't work it's painful to watch.

How hard is it to get sum blue chippers to come and live free in paradise!

It's way too late to get any blue chippers.

Hawaii's chances slipped couple years ago.

The whole nation has caught on that Hawaii sucks!

Bottom line is players make the plays.

Hawaii has no play makers!

But, when a team gets whooped this many times.

It's the coach's fault and he takes the blame.

June Jone's makes no adjustments or preparations.

Get a D-Coordinatoer!

What the hell is George Lumpkin doing as a DC!

Timmy Chang sucks as well.

He's the biggest choker in history!

Nice QB w/ talent, but give me a guy who has heart and can win the big games.

His W/L record is almost the same since he's been here!

He needs to go!"

I followed Hawai'i for years. That's stuff I already knew. I never have been a big supporter of JJ to SMU. I wanted a different coach but now it's all gone and it's all past and it ain't happening now. It's just too much time and energy to go on about anything JJ right now. I've been so serious about letting him go after last year.
He complains about so much. Everything has to be changed for him. Does he wear such silky panites?
I had to edit a lot. I'm just a little fired up about this stuff. I guess I thought that if I knew those things about him that the football followers would have known that stuff for many years too.

Even last night I listened on radio to Lamar at Hawai'i.
Mossakowski (out of Frisco Cetennial and Kentucky and Northwest Mississippi CC) is the QB for Lamar.
It was 54-2 Hawai'i. They were not happy with their 31,442 attendance.

Time for Dallas at Seattle.

The sad fact is that the run and shoot doesn't enable you to beat good teams. Mediocre defenses can stop it, true case and point as we've seen the past couple years and Hawaii vs Georgia. You look at the teams that 2007 Hawaii team beat, all fairly mediocre/bad teams with a couple close calls.

We need a real coach that runs a real offense. This is June's last year, he is done.

June just does not care. When he is interviewed it always seems to me that he is placing the blame elsewhere and never on himself. When he talks about SMU or the team, he is talking about a separate entity that he doesn't have anything to do with. If he came to Dallas to help the children, we should make sure he is able to do that full time.

That rant came after a 70-14 loss to Fresno State. UH won its last four that season, defeating Northwestern and Michigan State, including a (home) bowl game. UH had two double-digit win seasons after that. Would anyone here take that?

Yes, but it doesn't appear we are going to run the table.

I wonder how that poster felt a few years later when June took his undefeated team to the Sugar Bowl?

Fact is, Run & Shoot is a great equalizer to make sup-par teams competitive. Tom Rossley believed this. But unfortunately, there's only so much you can do with scheme, and if the other team has vastly superior talent, there's only so much you can do with a chalkboard. Just rewatching the game on Sunday, the disparity in size and athleticism was obvious. Our D played with a lot of heart.

We looked great until 8 minutes left in the 2nd qtr when our D basically wore out.

I guess that means play calling did not matter.

But it also means we need to recruit better, which we aren't doing. Though I think play calling does matter.

R and S supporters can't have it both ways. You cannot say it the players when the staff is not going after better players and making the minimal effort on the recruiting trail.
