Why not have a short yardage package?

Snaps under center, 2 backs, Wildcat, all of the above.

How hard is that?

Your right - I saw he posted that in another thread, thanks for pointing it out.

As to why no short yardage package, the coach doesn't want one. My take is that he chooses not to call plays situationally. This includes down and distance or time in the clock. There seems to be no change in his play calling regardless of the situation in the game.

Maybe you're right.

We can't even do a QB sneak without effing it up.

In 2 first halves against Baylor and A&M, I see an aggregate total of 3 points.

So....this needs to change. Like right now.

The teams that have the ability to run like Bama and Stanford also have solid defenses that can stop any offense. We are not a gimmick anymore. We are what everyone else runs without the running QB. The run and shoot was built to exploit 4/3 defenses designed to stop the run. Most teams run 3-4, 3-3-5 or 4-2-5 defenses with quick coverage backers and an extra corner.

Not sure where you got the information that the R&S was designed to beat a 4-3 defense. When Atlanta and Houston were running it in the 90s, they went up against dime defenses almost every week. CJJ isn't seeing anything now that he hasn't seen before, I assure you.

I think most of you are confusing scheme with players. Schemes are important, but it ultimately comes down to the players. If we start running Alabama's defensive scheme and Baylor's offensive scheme, we aren't going to start winning games automatically. They win because they have multiple NFL players (Alabama) and Heisman Trophy winners (Baylor) running it. SMU's issues so far are due to 1) a tough schedule, and 2) a talent shortage (poor execution hasn't helped either). It's really that simple.

Nothing fake here - I've been here longer than you think. And I'll defend the coach to a point, but not blindly.

You definitely try to justify what you argue. Makes for a good debate. I hope folks continue to be respectful on both sides.
