Give Conner a shot, we have nothing to lose

Post by ponyfan777 »

Give both GG and CP equal snaps and reps in practice, both weeks leading up to the TCU game. Then start GG "IF" you must and once he does nothing like he's very good at, pull him and go with Conner, the rest of the game and the rest of the year.

Your thoughts.

GG > CP

Amend: I think CP should be played when a blowout is in the work for or against us along with every other position because I'm writing off this season and say use it to prepare for our entry into BE

Just find and practice receivers that will catch the ball and give 110%. Simple.

Let's start the QB carousel again! Fans are so predictable. The number 2 guy is always the fan favorite, always the savior and at the very least couldn't do any worse. Kind of like firing your OC after week 1 of the season. Everyone is looking for the scapegoat.

GG didn't have Spring ball and wasn't able to practice with coaches until camp. He's all of 3 games into the season and with a new team, system, etc. Let's throw in the fact that we play one of the tougher out of conference schedules for a CUSA team to open the season, with a very inexperienced Oline. Yep. Let's scrap him. If you think he's hanging around as backup you're on crack!

We can run Preston out there and all cross our fingers that he's the man. We've done this with how many QBs over the past several years? They go out and impress us for a couple of games because expectations are low. As soon as we raise expectations we want throw them out, send them to E. Wash and start the project over again. If you pull GG for Preston you better be damn sure that he is the man moving forward. No guessing, no hoping, but sure.

I'm not ready to dump GG, which there is no going back from, 3 games into the season. Especially when we, in all reality, were suppose to lose the games we lost. (That does not mean that I enjoy watching us struggle so mightily or am not the least bit frustrated.) I think Stallion said it in another post. We are not nearly as bad as everyone on this board thinks. Let's see what GG does once conference play rolls around. When he sucks in week 6 against our conference opponents you pull the plug and don't look back.

Remember you pull the plug on him now GG not going to come back. He will transfer. You only get one chance at this. Just a little more patience or we can continue the carousel.

That's a really good point, if we can survive this transitionary period and start to get this team moving in the right direction it will really pay off, especially since we will finally have a starting QB for longer than 1yr. (and especially in BE play)

I personally haven't thrown GG to the wolves yet, but it has been a very disappointing start.

Totally agree with Dickerson on this one. Pulling GG and replacing him with Conner right now would be really stupid. You're basically throwing away the entire season plan at that point and we haven't even gotten to conference play yet.

Say what you want about keeping GG in there -the guy has to be better then advertised or he will go to the bench ultimately. It is all about results period. Preston would have started this year if GG hadn't transfered in and no one knows how well he would have done. He just might be a better gameday performer than GG. And we know the staff loves Burcham's upside.

You're right. GG needs to start performing. But before we can him let's see what he can do against our conference foes. I think we'll have a good idea on him after our 2nd conference game.

Like I said earlier. You better be sure that Preston is ready. GG might remain as backup for a year but he's out next year if you send him to the bench. You just better be sure or you may be pining for GG when Preston doesn't turn out to be what you expected and GG's moved on.

Ideally, GG figures it out shortly and gives us two solid years. Then Preston will have time to mature and gain experience to make a seamless transition when he takes the reigns. The grass always appears greener. Patience. We will know soon enough.

CP needs to get some game experience just in case GG gets hurt. We need to start building a corps of experienced qbs so that we are not left stranded like the last couple of years.

June did it less than a quarter into the 2011 season. Why can't we do it 3 games in after 2 complete blow out losses?

Not specific to QB, but on all positions, why don't we ever substitute? I understand that everyone works to be a starter and the starter should get the most reps, but when you are down by 30 late in the game? When it's evident you don't have your "A" game? Are we really doing those players any good to leave them in? It has to be mentally tiring for them. I know it is for me. I don't like to see anyone beaten down.

Yes and you heard him, "come back to me after game 6 or 7 for me to give you the answer (Gilbert's performance)"
