10-3

Post by ericdickerson4life »

What happens if we end up going 10-3 this season?

If we go 10-3...

Are we still rioting about our coach, flooding the ADs twitter?
Do remain in a panic?
Will we give credit to those behind center, on the field and on the sidelines with headsets?

So far, we are exactly where most rational fans would place us. 1-2. Most observers would have us at 1-3 after our first four games prior to the season. Now, we look awful on offense, but we also have a QB that is still meshing with the system and figuring things out after only coming on during camp. What if everything starts to click by game 5?

I doubt it changes much because we are typically the woe is me crowd. We will probably just complain about how we won or how we should run the ball more or throw the ball more or scrap the R&S and go to the Wing T. All things considered we are not nearly as bad as everyone on here makes us out to be. My point is simple. The season is still young and we still have a great chance to win CUSA. I'll change my tune when we look terrible and lose our first conference games. But for now, we are exactly where most in the world that doesn't wear Peruna shaded glasses thought we would be.

Now please continue the ranting and gnashing of teeth though, it make for fun reading.

Let me splain this to you then ....

Its different from the typical "SMU drops early games to suck the excitement out of the season" losses, because of two big things:

1) The two losses were by huge margins and were flat our embarrassing, and most of us have to deal with friends of ours that have gone from smack talk to that all too familiar pity talk in of days.

2) There has been no offense in any of the three games. None. Nada. Zip. Ocho. Big 0.

Those two factors lead most rational fans to believe we are in deep doo doo this year - and then the encouraging follow up to that is that we see the last three years of recruiting which has been averaging 2 - 2.5 stars vs our peer school opponants 3-3.5 stars, and we see that we could be doing much better with a better staff.

Therefore, we want a better staff so we can do better and not squander the very small amount of excitement that had starting to build around this program. If i was Hart i would be getting my short list togher and be sending out feelers. Let Jones know if he wants to maintain his mesiah persona that a resignation from SMU would be in order mid season, since he has done his job by having brought us back from the dead, and he can ponder his many offers from Hawaii for the next couple of years.

Nah. I think those drinking the Kool-Aid are those that thought we were going to beat Baylor on the road or A&M, anywhere. And then to say if we only lost by X points "I'd be happy that we competed". Those are the Kool-Aid drinkers. I just want to hold off my opinion of the team until we see how we perform in conference. Feel free to write off the team, turn in your season tickets and turn off the TVs before conference play. I'm OK with that.

Anyone want to take a trip in the wayback machine to a dinner at Texas de Brazil last winter during SMU's 'biggest recruiting weekend ever'?

so...what you are saying is that you are ok getting BLOWN OUT by mid teer BCS teams, as long as we can beat the shortest midgets in our conference? And in 12 months we will be playing in a BCS conference hoping to make it better - but lets just ignore our blow outs and our average recruiting success as long as we can get stoked about beating up on Tulane? Who exactly is ignoring reality?

The problem is that June seems to be content with just getting his wins against crappy CUSA opponents, so he can say he had a winning season and made it to another bowl game. How are we ever going to fill the stands if we can't compete at a higher level? All starts with recruiting, and June has proven he can't (or just doesn't want to) recruit.

10-3? ED4Life, are you already conceding victory to TCU?

Yes, and he gets considered for the Hawaii Bowl with anything equal to a 500 record. I think he would be happy going to the Hawaii Bowl every year until he retires.

I would love to believe we will go 10-3 and will be happy to eat my words. I hope you, Dickerson, are right and I am wrong. I really do.

You assume they are mid tier. A&M controlled that Florida game and should have won. Florida is ranked what?
Baylor, hell they are going to put up some massive offense on a lot of teams this year. If the defense can figure out things they might be pretty damn good. But hey, keep thinking we are at their level. You're the one drinking the Kool-Aid.

Am I OK with getting blown out. No. That's an easy answer. But I also never thought we were on the same playing field as either of those two teams. Too many new pieces in key spots on the field early on in the season before they can establish rhythm or experience.

As for the coaches. I don't really care. Fire June, keep June. I really don't care. I trust SMU will hire a good coach to come in, LB being the perfect example. We can [deleted] about JJ's recruiting and how that will affect us next year. But what I'm am trying to say, and what a lot of you can't figure out is...We are not at the same level as Baylor, A&M and TCU. We have to have perfect games and they have to be off in order for us to win. You're on crack if you think we should have won those games or been within one score. That's not me being a cheerleader, that's not me being OK with getting blown out, that's me being realistic.

This team, regardless of coaches on the field, has the talent THIS YEAR (not talking about next season and this has nothing to do with the recruiting situation) to win CUSA, THIS YEAR. We have yet to play anyone in our conference and immediately everyone thinks we will be lucky to win any games. Can we please give this team a chance to play a conference game before trying to scrap the damn season! Can we please let GG play against a conference opponent before we try to banish him to E. Wash. to win a championship. I get everyone hates JJ, but the team still has all its conference games to play. That's all I'm saying.

We are not as bad as you folks think we are. But please continue to complain about everything. At least we didn't lose to Texas State. Then I would be on your side of the fence. We've yet to lose a game we were suppose to win.

I have been saying all along that we can and should win CUSA. Just need to get to the OOC (ie preseason) out of the way.

Ha. Nope. Bad at math.

I have us losing 3 out of the first 4 (BU, A&M, TCU). I figure if we were so lucky enough to win out in conference we would go to the CUSA championship game and win of course, then go to the bowl game and win again. That should actually put us at 11-3, right? This is the true sunshiner scenario, I know. I also don't think it will happen, just a what if...

Anyways, my point to all of this was we haven't start conference play so we can't write off the season yet. When we lose the first two conference games, I'll be part of the hate brigade on everyone and everything having to do with SMU football. Until then, I'll be optimistic about our chances in conference play. If you guys don't like it, suck on my rays of sunshine!
