He is famous for working without a contract, using the employer as a stepping stone, and then bolting for more money. Maybe a "no-bolting" clause of some sort. We need a coach that will be here for the long haul. Also, stipulations that speak to severe monetary penalties should there be any incidents involving intoxications. If he really wants the job, he'll sign it. If the fool had stayed at UTEP, they would be beating Kentucky today like they did in 1966. However, I have been told by more than one person (including at least one very experienced, successful and well regarded high school coach from this area) has told me that Doherty has had trouble recruiting blue-chippers because they are not able to meet the scholastic requirements for SMU. If that is true, I can't see where Doh is necessarily at fault for the state of the program.

There are more then a few kids we just can't recruit b/c of grades, no doubt about it. That said, if they qualify and can get through the clearinghouse, we can pretty much take them. Derek Williams went JC, but he was a Genesis One kid before that. Leslee Smith goes to Humble Christian Life is a step up from God's Academy, but it's still a very questionable school. Bennie Rhodes went to Mt Zion where you can just pay for a diploma. OTOH, we can't recruit God's Academy, no matter how much we could use a kid or two of theirs. It's in our backyard, so admissions has let it be known that it doesn't pass the sniff test.
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.”- Jalen Jones

With Billy G out of a job and possibly looking for a lower-pressure environment, will TTown and txbball be posting on this board again?

Thanks, funny. Who figured out it was BG?

I think that was me. Here's my post that called them out for being Billy G - they never posted after this (from a thread called "What is Doherty" that was posted right after the 20-win season):

I wanted this to work, but again when I watch SMU I can't see a system.

I see Billy G is still looking for a job.

I think I remember it now that you mention it, but thought it was just you being a smart aleck. Nice.

I'd be lying if I said that I didn't think I was being a smart aleck at the time  8)

This is pretty funny response from Hoopmanx. He nailed it.
