Rutgers knocks off Arkansas!
And the announcers actually acknowledged they had been maligning the BE, then gave the BE some credit. Wonder of wonders!
Long live Inez Perez!

At the game. Arkyland hit big plays over the middle. RU finally got a clue and stopped that in the 4th quarter. That shut down Arkyland. UA's D is weak. Kicking game was stellar for UA. RU was we coached and played very hard

I feel bad for John L Smith.....he was a lame duck coach put in an impossible situation and is also 27 million in debt and his brother passed away recently. I'm really pulling for him.

..just curious, and completely none of my business, but how does a football coach get 27 million in debt ?

Maybe it is bad karma for leaving his alma mater in a difficult position.
Re: Rutgers knocks off Arkansas!
I feel bad for him about his brother passing away. That sucks any time it would happen, and even worse that it's happening now given his other troubles.
The lame duck coach piece, well, you know, he could have said no. He knew it would be tough. He's been around the block. If he didn't want the pressure, then he shouldn't have signed up for it.
I have a hard time feeling sorry for anyone who can get themselves in $27million in debt. If you make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, and got that far into trouble, you just got greedy. As they say "thems the breaks".

He would not have said no because he picked up the phone and called Jeff Long offering his services. His remark was that he planned on retiring in a year and could retire better on what UA was paying than what Weber State was paying.

Then why did he take the Weber State job if he planned on only coaching one year? Was Weber State okay with that?mrydel wrote:He would not have said no because he picked up the phone and called Jeff Long offering his services. Since he is in bankruptcy, it would probably be more accurate to say he is retiring from coaching but that he'll still be working.

Re: Rutgers knocks off Arkansas!
He said that his intent was to coach at Weber State for one year to get their program in good shape and then step aside for a new coach and retire. When the Arkansas situation arose he called Long and said he would keep the coaching staff intact, which is what everyone wanted a that time and then step aside after the year and retire. And he openly said that he wanted Arkansas because the pay would be better for the year. He is a very odd bird.CA Mustang wrote:Then why did he take the Weber State job if he planned on only coaching one year? As an aside, I think the Arkansas fans would be ok if the current staff was not kept in place any longer.

I just wonder if that was Weber State's understanding as well.mrydel wrote:He said that his intent was to coach at Weber State for one year to get their program in good shape and then step aside for a new coach and retire.
You don't normally hear a thirst for cash expressed by a coach in such raw terms. Oh, wait...mrydel wrote:And he openly said that he wanted Arkansas because the pay would be better for the year.

Who does our Arkansas contingent think will be the next coach at U of Arkansas?
Any chance it will be Patterson or Briles?
