When I hear a coach speak like that, it makes me feel as if he has a lot of integrity and honesty about what he, and his team are trying to accomplish. Though, from a PR perspective, it seems every interview I've read/listened to, the unified message seems to be: "new system for some players" or "no cohesion".
I think that's the part that bothers me most.
It's HIS "system" that sucks and the lack of "cohesion" is HIS problem.

Fine, I will finally bite on this.
If his system was so bad, why did he score so many points at Hawaii? Why was the offense so feared and effective there?
It isn't a systems issue. If you have a good o-line and great players around, players can be plugged in. See Padron's freshman year with McNeal and Sanders.
If GG had plenty of time to throw and guys with a step on their defender all over the place, there wouldn't be a problem right now.
And yes, that comes down to recruiting.
I have no inside information about this, so it is totally up for conjecture, but I look at things and see that we are weak at WR and OL right now. Coincidentally, WR and OL coaches left last year. Chicken and the egg scenario, but either we are short players because they left and didn't get to recruit last year, or they left because they couldn't recruit good players at their positions for a few years and now we are short playmakers. If we don't have players ready to step in at those positions, maybe there is some responsibility that falls on those coaches and not just Coach Jones.
Just a thought

problem with this program is the ridiculously tough non-conference schedule - a big screw you to the AD Dept. for the scheduling - we need wins and bowl games - I could give a crap about trying to prove ourselves against Top 20 caliber teams that have had the benefit of BCS recruiting for 15 plus years and lower admission standards - ease up on the schedule and get wins and bowl game appearances - AD Dept. consists of a bunch of morons!

In some sense, I think I agree with you. My gut tells me people are too damn impatient and want results now. Of course, when you fork over millions of dollars, I guess that's understandable.Billy Joe wrote:problem with this program is the ridiculously tough non-conference schedule - a big screw you to the AD Dept. for the scheduling - we need wins and bowl games - I could give a crap about trying to prove ourselves against Top 20 caliber teams that have had the benefit of BCS recruiting for 15 plus years and lower admission standards - ease up on the schedule and get wins and bowl game appearances - AD Dept. consists of a bunch of morons!
On the other hand, in my naive opinion, I wish we'd focus more on dominating our current conference for 8-10 years or so. A long enough amount of time that we actually become relevant in football because of a good track record, as opposed to a fly-by-night magical turn around that may or may not be sustainable; can you say, U of H?
Of course, the devil's advocate side of me says, you can't really due to that unless you push the envelope with better teams, to make more money, to get more exposure, to get better recruits.

You guys dont think some folks were excited 5 yrs ago when June first set foot on campus and we looked to the future schedules and thought wow...yr 5 of June's recruits systems everything..that right there is a schedule that had run at a BCS berth all over it
Re: June Jones on Sirius XM tonight at 9:30 Central
Not to interrupt your JJ-bashing, but you clearly don't remember the Cavan and Bennett regimes. We're nowhere near where we would like to be, but it's vastly improved over where we were.PonySnob wrote:Especially when so many teams just seem to be able to plug in new players without missing a beat. No, apparently half a decade is much too impatient to be competitive with former peers. Instead we need to have a "13 to 15 year window" for dominating the weakest, most watered down non-BCS conference that will actually exist for more than another year. Look out Memphis, in 2020, you'll totally be SMU's bit*h every single year. Shudder in terror.RGV Pony wrote:You guys dont think some folks were excited 5 yrs ago when June first set foot on campus and we looked to the future schedules and thought wow...yr 5 of June's recruits systems everything..that right there is a schedule that had run at a BCS berth all over it

During TCU's ascension, they scheduled plenty of BCS caliber teams out of conference and, guess what...they took care of business for the most part year in and year out. And i'm not talking about the year they went to the rose bowl. They had been doing it for a while. Not sure why our team can't stay on the field with the big boys. TCU held their own for a while before they really got a lot of recognition. We can't even compete.

That actually isn't true. During their ascension, they scheduled 1 BCS school and a bunch of non-BCS as non-conference (including us).
After they established themselves they started scheduling 2 BCS teams per year. But that was after they had been winning for several years. Like a decade.
