TU boosters think little of our QB
I don't agree with these die hard TU boosters. I think GG is much better

Jury is still out for me.......I'm hoping they are wrong, but so far, I'm not impressed.

Re: TU boosters think little of our QB
We have nothing to refute their assessments at this time. We desperately need to show some progress and ability to compete at TCU or it is going to be a very long season.
Re: TU boosters think little of our QB
C'mon.......I tried to be loyal and gave JJ a big break before the season but its VERY apparent. Give me and give GG a break..its NOT GG guys...its the archaic dated offense. I talked to the son of a major D-1 coach from the 80's today ( who was also a major WR player in college) and he and his dad both watched the A & M game at Ford and couldn't believe that June was still running the same exact plays as 20 years ago and could name all the offensive sets for the WR's that he was running. They were NOT impressed.
This R and S of Junes has been defensed over and over since then...GG has no chance. The college football world has changed, and June hasn't......its VERY apparent.

GG is struggling, and while I want to blame the ridiculous system or the bad receivers, the fact of the matter is that he flat out over throws or under throws quite a lot...

Listen to ponyscott, I think little of WRs and JJEast Coast Mustang wrote:I think very little of our QB so far as well.
Re: TU boosters think little of our QB
It still works with a good QB and the stuff has changed a lot in terms of pass pro. Problem is what happens when the QB struggles.ponyscott wrote:C'mon.......I tried to be loyal and gave JJ a big break before the season but its VERY apparent. As far as your friend, naming the key concepts in his R&S isn't hard and he doesn't use many sets. Stopping it when a good QB and OL is lining up across from you is very difficult.
The R&S was very complicated compared to the 1980s offenses it sprung up around but honestly offenses have developed so much it isn't any more difficult than most passing spread offenses. Everyone runs the streaks (4 verts) play now and other concepts have been borrowed by other schemes. June has even copied some stuff like levels that other schemes use. It isn't calculus.
If SMU can get consistent play from the QB the offense will be fine. Until then you have a car with a defective ignition switch. It has the parts to run but can't get started.
He may or may not be the guy for smu but the R&S isn't why. The scheme is a good one for a school needing to differentiate themselves to cover recruiting disadvantages but you need a QB to run it. He had qbs at Hawaii and was able to score on more talented teams like Purdue, Oregon St, ASU, Boise, and others.
IMO his issues at smu lie elsewhere.

Well in five years we've had about half a dozen guys just not cut it. I think we might be on to what "elsewhere" is.WordUpBU wrote:IMO his issues at smu lie elsewhere.

This offense is a QB killer.

Well, I guess if you talked to the son of a major D-1 coach - and he and his dad BOTH watched the A&M game at Ford, named the offensive sets, knew the routes and were NOT impressed - well, there you go. Absolute, unrefutable evidence that dad and son ought to be coaching this team... it's VERY apparent.ponyscott wrote:C'mon.......I tried to be loyal and gave JJ a big break before the season but its VERY apparent. Re: TU boosters think little of our QB
No BM that was just an anecdotal story...a 4-21 record vs. winning teams and a complete domination by them over SMU and a losing record with a bad % since his arrival at SMU is the irrefutable ( try spell check) evidence with no relief in sight , based upon current recruiting for 2013. The QB is not the problem here is the point made.Bergermeister wrote:Well, I guess if you talked to the son of a major D-1 coach - and he and his dad BOTH watched the A&M game at Ford, named the offensive sets, knew the routes and were NOT impressed - well, there you go. Re: TU boosters think little of our QB
ponyscott, how does a 17% winning percentage against winning teams compare to other better than average midmajor schools? and does that include JJ's first season, the one in which we won only one game total? without that info, the stats are meaningless. unless of course you just want to lynch someone who dresses differently than you do

Re: TU boosters think little of our QB
For this R&S to work the QB and the WR's have to read the same way. If the QB sees one thing and the WR another... OH Boy it look bad and could be a PICK.
I do not pretend to have the answer.. I know I am a Mustang fan and appreciate what JJ has done for this school but I am frusterated to say the least. I think JJ is also.
Maybe a sign of JJ's frustration was the field goal. Dang just get a point. Not what I would have done but I don't make a living caoching.
JUST WIN. and at least - play well.
