College Football News Report

Postby PerunaPunch » Fri Jul 26, 2002 6:12 pm

CFN picks SMU to finish 5th in the conference at 5-7, 4-4 in WAC.

Also, SMU is picked as THE TEAM in the WAC that will surprise. And SD Charles is picked #2 on the WAC list of those on the verge of national stardom.

I agree, except I think we can take Hawaii (should have beat them last year even with Lelie) and maybe beat LA Tech for homecoming.

I still say 8-4, and as high as 7-1 in WAC play.

Climb out any farther on that limb and you may fall and hurt yourself PerunaPunch. I'm not quite read to join you on that limb....but after we get into the fall practices I may re-evaluate the situation.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

I'm there with you, Peruna Punch. SMU absolutely WILL be the surprise team of the WAC this year. Up here, all I hear about is the OU Sooners. But last year, Oklahoma State beat the mighty Sooners. And OSU had mostly the same players they had the year before. What they added was a new head coach who instilled a sense of confidence and a new attitude. Sure, they're record was bad, but they believed for the first time in years that they can beat anyone, even OU. Coach Bennett will have the same affect on the Ponies this year. We have a veteran team this year, and with good QB coaching and our already-great defense, we're going to shock the conference. I'm not saying we'll win it, but I'm not saying we won't, either.

The bad news is that Oklahoma State has 8 starters back on each side of the ball. They might be the best team we face all year.
