And about McDermott, he was injured and banged up for much of the year... the guy did some impressive stuff.
Re: Gilbert is not the problem
GG is a major problem--whats an even worse problem is we can't pull him because of incapable back ups.....GG will start the rest of the season, JJ will finish the year and both will be distant, bad memories by next season....for those that think GG can play--he can, but it's all relative to what level he can play at...i'll say it again--he's a major problem.
4 touchdowns, 9 INT's. 49.5% completion percentage....give me a break--ridiculous.

Re: Gilbert is not the problem
Look when costly throws are giving the momentum to the other team in a clearly winnable game, you've gotta make a change. I'm not sure we have a great QB in the roster, but it was embarrassing not to get another QB in there. I like what I've seen from Preston, but considering his recruitment level I'd like to see what we've got in Burcham. Anyone seen him in practice?

I'd love to see any other option at QB at this point--either one will do. If it doesn't work, go back to GG. 4 games is enough to evaluate, give another QB a chance to compete.

He threw one to end the game bringing the total to 5.
ohhh right thats right, well i discount that only because our team cant hurry it up and JJ burned a freaking TO with that stupid Onside kick... you thought he would have learned from last years A&M game...
I just have to ask... Why the sudden tolerance for interceptions after all of the hateful comments and name calling that you piled on McDermott last year because he threw a few? And say, how is your pal Padron doing at Eastern Washington?
Define a few... 16 WOW. GG having to deal with sh*t receivers wouldn't surprise me if he hit 16 as well. The difference is McDermott had awesome WRs. Inexcusable to throw 16 with those bada$$es. Pardon I don't pay attention to as I thought he's an idiot for giving up great education. Please tell me you see the difference between what is given to each QB.... Please for the love of SMU please see the difference lol[/quote]
Maybe Padron left because he was jaded by the leftist academics at SMU.....

Re: Gilbert is not the problem
It is the offense of JJ. Should be more successful though as we get into CUSA. Receivers will catch, OL won't be overmatched and GG won't be forced to scramble and try to make plays he shouldn't. Everyone just do their job and they will be fine. Our defense can dominate although hurting with the losses at db.
Re: Gilbert is not the problem
As pointed out in other posts that GG missed several reads and threw into double sometimes triple coverage.

As in everyday life, when thing don't go our way we want to blame, point fingers and make changes. As I have seen in my 28 years in business, it's seldom greener on the other side! GG has struggled getting going this year no doubt. But he has struggled learning a tough system against teams like Baylor, A&M, & TCU (didn’t have many opportunities against SFA because the D was scoring). Making changes now would set us back tremendously, and we would definitely not sniff a Bowl game. He has looked well above average in practice, and much better than those below him. So if he is struggling against live opponents, how do you think the others will do?!?
I see improvements with GG every game. Saturday he was on the money early on and we drop the passes. Those drops were big as they almost all would have been 1st downs. We had two back to back drops on 2nd then 3rd down. The OL was over matched allowing pressure on GG the entire game. Yes he had 6 interceptions, two basically thrown up for grabs, and another that with any effort from the receiver would have been a completion. In that kind of weather, throwing that many times, and against a team like TCU (ranked 15), having 3 picks is not overly surprising. TCU gave up on passing halfway through the 3rd quarter for the most part, likely because they weren't having much success in the rain, and with a lead didn't want to risk any picks!
I predict it all comes together GG and his receivers this weekend at UTEP! I'm now more concerned about the strength of our DB's as we likely have lost Ryan Smith for the season!
Patience my friends, patience!!
