Umbrella etiquette
Sad to say that while I was standing next to a gaggle of drunk TCU frat boys for most of the first half, it was with an SMU fan that I had the biggest problem with behavior.
How hard is it to be considerate of other fans? Umbrellas block the view of people behind you. It's not rocket science. This guy was asked to put down the umbrella or sit down with it. He refused to do both because he didn't want to get wet....
Oh, ok. Well, I hope he stayed dry for the whole half the game he was man enough to stay for.

HAHA! I saw that incident occur... I double checked with the folks behind me to make sure mine wasn't blocking their view. Were you the one with the bucket hat that he told to "F" off???

No, I was a couple of rows back. I kept my umbrella stowed until there was no one behind me. I think I might have called him a b**tard though.

It's not like people couldn't just move... I did and no one notice, why flip out at the guy with an umbrella when people can move and make the stadium look full, it's not like your one seat is dry haha

Of course, manners in today's world are totally unwarranted.
You don't block someone else's view. If you want to stand with your umbrella, you move to where you can. You don't expect others to move.

I guess I can go with that but in this day in age it's just sadly a realistic assumption to do it the way I stated because obviously the kid never left

Re: Umbrella etiquette
Frustrating selfishness. Same problem here. One fan was gracious enough to put his umbrellas down when I asked him. Others no so much.

Re: Umbrella etiquette
Why does the stadium have a "no umbrellas" policy if they aren't even going to attempt to enforce it?
Re: Umbrella etiquette
It was my understanding that umbrellas were not allowed in Ford. In the past this prohibition was stated on the back of the tickets. Just looked at my season tickets and don't see the statement on them. I am all for an umbrella prohibition in Ford. Wear a hat and a raincoat. Of course, nothing would have kept you dry last Saturday, whether you had an umbrella or not.

Yep, umbrellas are not worth much when the rain is come at you horizontally.

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Re: Umbrella etiquette
The guy in front of us had an obstructing umbrella and had NO raincoat, hat nor poncho! What kind of fool came out on a day like that with only an umbrella to a football game? He and his "mom" refused to move a few feet away to not block our view because the "mom" wanted to sit next to her family. So, I moved.
UMbrellas should be banned and the ban enforced!

It is still posted as an official policy, but obviously they have no intention of enforcing it.

Re: Umbrella etiquette
I only had my umbrella with me for the walk to the stadium, but when I saw others with theirs I decided to use it. With that said, I did not stand directly in front of anyone, and even asked the people sitting back left of me if it were blocking their view. I saw the kid cussing at the lady yelling at him, and thought myself that he should also move if he wanted to use his umbrella. I really didn't think umbrellas would be allowed either though... I ended up ditching my umbrella early in the second half because I got tired of dealing with it.
