Hardline Broadcasting Before SMU-Houston

Post by Oliver »

With the Hardline guys on Campus broadcasting for the Thursday night game with Houston, we NEED to make sure those guys have a great tailgate experience, and an atmosphere that they can talk about to their listeners. Those guys have a huge influence over the college football fan demographic, so we need to make sure they are enjoying themselves, and feel like they are having something a big time game experience. I think they get something like a 7.9 market share with 25-54 male age group, which is one of the best for a sports radio show on a major network.

This is a Thursday night game with our future in state Big East conference rival. Like it or not, we need to develop Houston as a big game on the schedule for us. We should look at this game as our last game with a BCS team, regardless of their quality. If we did do a black out for this game, it would be the perfect time to do it. Add a little extra buzz to a Thursday night game on FSN.

Regardless of what we do Thursday, we need to pump it up on email blasts, daily campus, social media, etc. We need to get class out early, everyone in red (or black) and the boulevard rocking as early as we can, because obviously the alumni crowd will be late arriving with work.

I just think that we need to utilize every decent game we have left on the home schedule, and that this could help us boost the hype around a game that could very easily get lost in the shuffle.

We should also look in to getting a player, coach, athletic admin., or general student involved on set. Any way they might want to engage with us on the air is free advertising and buzz. Obviously we need to see how much the Hardline is willing to work with us, but regardless, this is a great opportunity to make a good impression on a group that has a lot of influence over the demographic we are looking to capture. Let’s make this thing great. Get students and Greek out early Thursday as soon as possible and let them start enjoying the festivities on campus. We need to be careful not to lose the students on this one, unless we make this a fun, special day to let loose and party a little bit, people will start bailing out early for Homebar and whatever else they have planned Thursday night.

They'll have a great time on the Boulevard and then wonder where the hell everyone went when the game starts and why the stadium atmosphere is less lively than their Great Aunt Hortensia's funeral.

Hardline also broadcasted from the boulevard 2 years ago when we played TCU on a Friday night. They set up on the north end of the boulevard in between the frat tents. They saw lots of action, and talked up the scene.

That being said... Hard for those idiots to do anything with SMU. Corby is a TCU grad and an OU t shirt fan. He is also an idiot on top of that. Mike is an OU fan that brings nothing to the table anymore.

but what about Danny??

I listen to the ticket all the time, but The Hardline has taken a serious nosedive in the past 3-4 years. Would be nice if they had someone on there who had real sports opinions other than the typical guy off the street.

I have found myself listening less and less due to the incredible ignorance of Corby. If it were just sports I could live with it, but he is truly and frighteningly clueless on pretty much every subject. He fully has no real knowledge of anything, and nobody else on the show is quality enough to balance him out.

I'm convinced Corby just listens to Badd Radio and repeats everything that Bob has to say regarding the major sports. He acts like he knows golf and tennis, but I don't know enough about those sports to tell if he really does.

In San Antonio one of the local shows has Dat Nguyen on it. Yesterday they tried to talk about basketball and he said something along the lines of "Jordan and Pippen played... defense I think". Being a moron seems to be a requirement for local sports talk radio.

I find Corby entertaining and pro-SMU when the subject is brought up. Norm talks about SMU alot.

Mike R. is baseball only and pretty grumpy nowadays. Danny hates everything.

It's a sports talk show folks. Those guys get ratings for ripping people, sports teams, etc. Don't take it so seriously. They have ripped SMU's lack of fan support and the students for not going to the games and they should.

The Ticket, including the Hardline, sucks except for Rich Phillips calling the SMU games (at least on the road, when I listen). But Oliver is right: we need to make sure they have a good time, so the sheep who listen to them can be told something we already know -- how great the 'Vard is.

I'll be coming up from Temple, TX and driving back that night. Anyone else from around the area is welcome to car pool with if they want to go but dont want to endure the hassle of driving to Dallas and back.
