Stating the obvious about scheduling and other offseason mov

Postby Dooby » Fri Mar 04, 2005 10:29 am

Unless Bennett pulls another O’fer or wins just 1 game in 2005, he’s coming back in 2006. 2006 is the make or break year for Bennett. The schedule, the extension, it all points that way.

2006 is going to be the easiest schedule this team has had in 20 years. Is that an overstatement? Ark. State; UNT; a possible 12th game at home.

SMU was going to have to make a decision on Bennett next spring with him going into the last year of his deal, anyway. The extension just put that off for one year. That is fine with me.

But if Bennett doesn’t finish above .500 in 2006, I think we can all agree he’s gone. Say what you want, SMU has given Bennett everything he’s asked for: some juco’s, better schedule, new playing surface, relaxed admission standards. Yes, I acknowledge we still have some ground to cover in some of those areas but by and large, Bennett’s gotten what he wanted.

Now, since I had the unfortunate pleasure of defending Copeland the last few months, let me say this: If Bennett doesn’t get it done (I really hope he does), I’ll be damned if Copeland gets to pick a third football coach. At that point, Copeland would have botched three of his four biggest hires with the jury still out on the fourth (Tubbs).
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
