the last 15 years? you guys crack me up, where were you when Rossley was playing the big boys week in and week out, yet he was a horrible coach
once again the formula- play 2-3 winnable in-state or teams of area interest THEN play one of the big boys each year, Texas, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Tech each year; never play Div I-AA, it would be like their Super Bowl if we ever consider Baylor, TCU, North Texas as not winnable- just give up football and concentrate on the coed sports b/c we have much bigger problems
Re:Well now that you've gotten everyones undies in a wad, exactly what is your scource for this information?
No, No No-you can't blame the last 15 years on the schedule-that is the biggest load of crap. The schedule we play has more creampuffs than any in the history of the school. The reason we have sucked has ZERO to do with our (creampuff) schedule and everything to do with a lack of administrative commitment. Don't play this cop-out game that "oooo our schedule is too tough....we play Texas Tech and they went to a bowl game-oooooo"- We play one maybe two traditional Top 30-35 teams every year. Then we play 2 schools with no tradition whose teams win because they have the full support of the university. The rest are ALL traditional creampuffs to this university.
Shut up, Stallion. You stay on message more slavishly than George Bush in the debates with Kerry. And it is equaly frustrating. For the record I agree with most of what you say and voted for Bush, too.
You can't admit that one good thing happened to SMU football in 20 years or that one good player went through here. You got in a knock down drag out fight over Josh McCown solely because you refuse to acknowledge the possibility that NFL calibre QB ever set foot on this campus. Hell, you could have used McCown to support your argument if you weren't so hard-headed. Did it ever occur to you that maybe McCown wasn't successful here because he had nobody to play with and that might have been the fault of the admissions policies? For the record, I think McCown sucks, but I recognize that somewhere a few years ago, Cavan and his staff really screwed that up. Hell, I consider this part of the administration's commitment-passing up a check or bigger gate receipts to win some friggin' games. There are plenty of schools you can't say that about. I don't see anything about marching onto Kyle field next season and pickign up a check from A&M that reflects a commitment to anything. Let's win some games, go to a bottom feeder bowl, build a little positive momentum and take it from there. Hell, maybe if Bennett were in a better position, he might be able to demand some changes. Oh, and another thing Stallion. We all see where this is going. You are changing your rhetoric slightly by talking about the administration's commitment. As soon as you get what you want by way of admissions policies, you are gonna bi-yutch about money; i.e. commitment. Which, from you, is a load of manure because you have said many times you won't give a dime to the Mustang Club. Last edited by Dooby on Fri Mar 04, 2005 11:48 am, edited 1 time in total.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
which creampuff in the C(reampuff)-USA West are you too frightened to play. Let's look Rice(creampuff), Tulsa(creampuff), UTEP(historically one of the Top 3 creampuffs in history), Tulane(creampuff). I guess UH has some decent history in the last 30 years. How about Western Athletic Creampuff Conference(the "WAC"). You've got an excellent selection of creampuffs there too-how about SJSU, Nevada and Louisiana Tech to add into the creampuff mix with the above mentioned schools. This is what the "over 45 crowd" is complaining about-you mean SMU can not compete with those schools and in fact had a winless record against a creampuff schedule? Let's not drop our standards so low that we start complaining about having to play those creampuffs. That being said-I'll accept a game against Arkansas St as a strategic game in a "Make-or Break" season.
Stallion, even you have to admit it was a good idea to get the annual OSU @ss-whipping off the schedule.
Look everybody-playing teams of Arkansas State's caliber is not SMU's problem. Not being able to beat teams the caliber of Arkansas State-that's SMU's problem.
Yeah - but the point being missed by the "over 45 crew" is that these things don't get fixed until you do something about them. Playing the same teams that have been kicking our tails for the last 15 yrs is not going to change the outcome. So if you are AD, you do everything you can to fix admissions AND lighten the schedule in the off season - Right now, TCU/TECH/OSU - is not going to get us any wins to build on or any fans in the stands later in the season after they give up on us (AGAIN).
Nobody said the schedule was the only problem - but given our other issues, easing the schedule is part of the fix. Copeland is smart to do it, should have done it years ago, and should have convinced the admin. to fix the admissions issues you harp about back then also - but since they didn't they need keep the pressure on to do it now.
You've got to be kidding Stallion, at this point you see no problem with playing a team like OSU? Maybe I'm nuts, but I actually want to WIN GAMES, and gain some confidence going into conference play. In the last six seasons, we have a grand total of ONE non-conference win. I'm tired of the season being a lost cause by mid October, I'm tired of getting beat both physically and on the scoreboard by teams that we arent on the same competitive level with, just because we still have some fans out there that think it's 1982. At this point in the progression of the program, I just want to start winning some games, no matter who they're against, and actually know what it feels like to win going in to the conference usa portion of the schedule.
I like seeing a full stadium. I don't care if its against the Aggies or the Little Sisters of the Poor. Unfortunately, the Little Sisters aren't big at the gates and neither have our WAC opponents (even the good ones). So we get to the chicken and egg thing. Do we play creampuffs every game before an empty stadium in hopes that it will give us a full stadium the next year, or do we play good teams in front of a full stadium and have a winless record OOC. I am sort of a middle of the road guy. If we play one tough (, TT, OSU, A&M), one medium OOC opponent (Navy, TCU, Baylor all fit that description) every year and one extremely creamy puff of an opponent OOC, I'd be happy.
Re:
I don't think it has to be an either/or proposition. For example, we've finally scheduled NTSU after waiting all these years. That'll be a nice crowd AND a competitive game.
I like seing a full stadium, too. I don't like seeing a full stadium of horny toads or aggies, whether be of the sand or whooping variety.

Re:
I'd like to see an answer to this question. I thought I had been following our scheduling pretty closely but this is the first time I've seen Texas State mentioned.
Nothing on Southwest Texas State's....oops, excuse me...Texas State University - San Marcos' fan board about SMU in 2006. Here's a news release about their 2005 schedule. They play Texas A&M the week after SMU does.
SAN MARCOS - Seven home games and a road date at Texas A&M highlight Texas State University's 2005 football schedule released Thursday. "It is an attractive schedule which is both competitive and gives our fans an opportunity to see our team nine times within the state of Texas," said Texas State director of athletics Larry Teis. "We scheduled seven home games to give this football team every opportunity to be successful." Texas State played just five home games last year, including two against Division I-A opponents. This year the Bobcats will play four nonconference games in Bobcat Stadium. Texas State opens the season Sept. 3 against a Delta State team which was 6-4 a year ago and finished the year by winning three straight. The Statesmen finished the 2003 season ranked 16th nationally and won the Division II national championship in 2000. The Bobcats play host to Southern Utah the second week of the season in a game which will mark the third meeting between the two programs in the past four years. Texas State defeated Southern Utah 49-19 in 2002 before suffering a 31-28 loss to the Thunderbirds in 2003. Southern Utah is a member of the Great West Football Conference. After a September open date, the Bobcats play at Texas A&M on Sept. 24. The game will mark the fourth against a Big 12 opponent for Texas State. The `Cats played at Oklahoma State in 2000 and traveled to Missouri in 2001. Baylor defeated Texas State 24-17 last year in Waco. Texas State will also play host to Great West member South Dakota State (Oct. 1) and Panhandle State (Oct. 15) in nonconference home games. With Southeastern Louisiana becoming a football-playing member of the Southland Conference in 2005, Texas State will play three home conference games and three on the road. League play for the Bobcats begins Oct. 8 when they travel to Hammond, La., to play SLU in its inaugural Southland game. The Bobcats also travel to Nicholls State and Stephen F. Austin. The `Cats get last year's conference co-champions Northwestern State and Sam Houston State along with perennial league power McNeese State at home. "This is a very challenging schedule, and at the same time, it's a great schedule with seven home games," said Texas State coach David Bailiff who begins his second season. "It is a schedule that Bobcat fans can be proud of." Season tickets for the 2005 season are currently on sale through the Texas State Athletic Ticket Office. For more information, contact the ticket office at (512) 245-2272 or (877) 798-CATS.
