Tulane should have never been that close in the first place

Post by Rebel10 »

I know some are saying that not going for it on 4th down at the 1 yard line lost it for SMU but the cold truth is that Tulane should have never been that close in score. SMU scored the lowest total against Tulane and allowed Tulane to score the most points the scored all season.

Well that's obvious. The game itself was absolutely awful. June should be ashamed.

If we had recruited better especially at the skilled positions this game would have been out of reach by the 4th quarter but the is what under the radar recruiting will get. This years class is full of under the radar and under-recruited players. That will not win in the BE and apparently not CUSA either as we are seeing.

I do not play the "should never have been that close" game. Many times better teams get lax and let others take early advantage. The good ones come back. I would rate the play calling late in the fourth quarter second worst only to the Washington State game at their place a few years ago.

Bobby Knight said when asked about playing the Russians in the Olympics about the 1972 loss and how he would handle things. He said simply "just don't let them close enough to where one basket can beat you." Even though Knight's team never played them due to Russia not participating in the Olympics that year he was right. Enough said.

Oh, I agree it should not have been that close but I do not see that as the primary problem. We came back, got the lead and then stupid play calling did us in.

Go back to the extra point. Go for 2. If you do not make it there is no difference in the game and what needs to be done. If you make it, then Tulane is either kicking for a tie or going for 2 for a win.

That coupled with the pass on the goal line instead of taking more time off the clock just baffles me.

Now,now Mrydel. That's not totally fair. We all know BLM had money on Washington state that game
