Petrino would be a great hire. One of the top 10 coaches in the country and wins everywhere he goes. He was fired from Arkie for having an affair and not telling the AD. He's never committed any infractions or even been investigated. He's clean there but does have a bit of a reputation. However, I think the fiasco at Arkie has probably humbled him to no end. Hart should fire JJ yesterday and hire this guy. Now.

After watching LA Yech give the aggies all they could handle I'm in the Dukes camp, but reality says SMU will not take the initiative to make any changes. Our administration just cannot or will not make bold decisions.

Re: Secret Coach Thread 2012
My "realistic" top wish list . . . my dream guy would be Jimmy Johnson
My criteria . . . young, hungry, energetic, innovative offensively . . . and keep Mason (maybe make him Asst HC).
- Kliff Kingsbury (don't know if that's possible with Jason Phillips here)
- Sonny Dykes
- Mark Helfrich (current OC at Oregon - started as QB coach at Boise)
- Pep Hamilton (current OC at Stanford - basically developed Andrew Luck, charismatic)
- Jason Phillips (risky, but might be worth the chance)
I can't believe my top 2 guys are Tech guys. Oh well.

Re: Secret Coach Thread 2012
we don't need another "western" guy as we move to the Big East. We need someone with Texas ties who will put together a younger, energetic staff that will get out and compete for Texas talent. We need people who really believe it can be done at SMU, just as it has been at TCU.
And Petrino is a pipedream...he will end up back in the SEC and may have his pick of Tennessee or Auburn the way things are going
If JJ decides to step down (and I think that's what it will take), I hope they give Chad Morris a serious look. His uptempo style and very creative offense will get people enthusiastic again. More and more teams have adopted that approach. I remember when JJ came in here and talked about how we would be explosive and win games 48-45 which would generate more attendance but recruiting athletes on the defensive side of the ball would be harder and would only come after we established ourselves as a winning program. How is that working out?

You do not necessarily need a head coach with Texas ties but you do need a top notch recruiter with Texas ties no doubt.

Hence my top 2 choices (3 out of the 5 actually).

I know I've made suggestions before, but in all honesty I will support the new coach fully if he champions the traditions of SMU, possesses a good work ethic, recruits hard 365 days a year, and never ever stops learning the ever changing game of college football. And on a side note, if he sends the geldings to the glue factory I'll dance at his next wedding!

Texas fans aren't even happy when they're winning.
If they beat Wyoming by 21, it should have been 42. They are contentious and NEVER satisfied.
a buddy told me this morning "everyone should boycott the road games, this team doesn't deserve to have fans"
