Now That I've Calmed Down

Post by ojaipony »

It was very hard to enjoy my day yesterday after the game with my family unfortunately. I really let it get to me. And the reason was because it's so obvious what lost us that game that we should have won by at least 3 touchdowns - playcalling. Also, it really bothered me that we are paying a guy $2 MILLION / year that has obviously checked out (if he was ever really checked IN).

We have some talent folks (need more obviously, but we have some ... especially among some of the younger guys outside of Zach Line, T Reed, JGD, Margus). The players are a good group of guys.

Our formula for winning is pretty simple . . .

On defense - bring the heat! Rotate in lots of LBs (we have the speed/athleticism at that position). It's unfortunate we have the most injuries in our weakest area - the secondary - but if we bring pressure it helps.

On offense: ball control. RUN, RUN, RUN. And when we throw, make the throws short and quick. GG really struggles when he has to think, gets rushed, etc, so put him in a position where you minimize that. Certainly take your deep shots once or twice, but keep it conservative.

So, TAYLOR YOUR GAME PLAN TO YOUR PLAYERS! (forget about a "system" - your job is to put your players in a position to succeed as Larry Brown said). Quick throws with blockers out front (we have size in Holleman and Dieter now). This formula has worked for us every time (we saw it in this game). We only start sucking when we get away from it.

Beat Houston (a tall order) and I'll be less depressed and still think we have an outside chance of winning CUSA. If they beat us (and especially if they beat us badly), I will done for this year.

If only you were coaching, and I don't mean that sarcastically. Our buffoon will consider none of these points.
