Donnie Gilray

Postby PK » Wed Aug 07, 2002 12:42 pm

Does anyone know the real story on what is going on with Donnie? Rumors are flying and some are not so good. I for one hope every thing is OK and that he will be on campus and the practice field soon.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

I'm like PK, I've heard a lot of rumors, and I hope they're wrong. What's the story? We won't really know what kind of a prospect he is until we see him on the field, but he seems like a sharp young man and I hope he gets everything straightened out.

Someone mentioned on the other board that ProudPonyPa had removed all his posts on Ponyfans.com....he is right, can't find any of his post left on this site. Not a good sign. Hope everything is OK with Donnie and his family.

Likewise. There are more important things in the world than football, and I hope he gets those squared away. Then come back to SMU.

Yes, I yanked all my posts, because I was told I was bragging too much. I tried real hard not to, but I guess my bias shows through. So all of my opinions were tainted with favoritism. I felt that was a huge disservice to whomever I was describing in my posts - even if it was a defensive player.

Not so fast, my friend!

PPP, you're SUPPOSED to be biased. He's your son, and you're clearly very proud of him. Hell, we're proud of him just for choosing SMU, and we're not even related. Crow all you want -- every parent should be so proud.

PPP,

You have every right to be to be somewhat biased. You're a Mustang dad, which in my book, makes you (and your comments) something special. Certainly you're not trying to dupe anyone; your handle pretty clearly states your position.

So pay no attention to detractors. I, for one, sincerely appreciate your inside perspective. Hope everything’s O.K. with you and the family, and I think I speak for nearly everyone in requesting that you continue your posts.

For those of you who have offered encouragment to PPP I say "well done" to the others I say shame on you as humans !!!

Hey PPP come visit with ponyparents.com, I'm sure you will not get the same feeling / treatment, we are ALL proud of the players and desperately want SMU to return to those glory days, alas we are part of the new era when so called fans only support if you win and win NOW.
You are a very proud parent, say it loud and often as there are those who will only come out once we (SMU) are riding high.

Go Mustangs

As soon as Donnie signed on the dotted line in February, he became part of the Mustang family, which means the rest of the Gilrays are Mustang family, too. It doesn't matter how he does as a player. Whether he breaks Ramon Flanigan's all-time record for total offense or never sets foot on the field .... once a Mustang, always a Mustang.

Keep crowing all you want. Donnie's accomplishments have earned you that right. And I guarantee that the other parents who visit this board, like Joyous, are just as proud of their sons as you are of yours. Keep it up.

They don't have an icon to show the emotion I feel, right now.

I am overwhelmed with those responses. I felt like anything I said about Bartel or Wallis, or even Hodges was considered criticism. NOT!!!

I got the chance to meet Mark Hodges at the AARO conference last week. I also met his mom. I won't embarrass them, but it is obvious she is very proud of her oldest boy/student/man.

Vic Viloria, John Hampton, and others have welcomed the freshman and made them feel good during the summer. Leaders on and off the field!

GO Ponies!
