Hawaii Bowl or Bust

A trip to Hawaii is a perfect way for June to ride off into the sunset as a success in his mind. This is the best possible scenario for SMU football at this point.

Let's win 6 or 7, go to Hawaii, and have a fresh start with a new coach (and no money owed to June) in 2013.

If you think that June walks away with what he is going to have in place next year, you are on crack.

IF, and it is a big IF, we go to a bowl, it will be because we continue to grow offensively and the secondary gets a little more healthy. That would put us on a run here to the end of the season with 1 or 2 losses. And next year he has Gilbert back, two good, ready backups at QB, more experience and depth at receiver (take out 7 and put in 88, take out 81 and put in 4, 83 for DJ), a young but athletic offensive line. DL graduates but we are 3 deep there, we are loaded at LB, and the secondary will be deep with talent.

There is no way that June walks away after this season.

sorry, I just re-read my post an I intended to say that there is no way June was going to just walk away next year if we make a bowl this year. I didn't mean for my comment to come across that harsh .

I'm not projecting wins next year, I am just saying that if the offense gets its act together the end of this season (which is the only way we are making a bowl), then June will have a really interesting team coming back next year.

The spirit is JJ does not care about the fans just going to Hawaii to play. That is not the spirit. If he cared about the fans we would looked at a game closer for the fans to get to.

Im hoping it now the hawaii bowl so i can either watch it on tv when it happens or actually go to the game. Would be awesome if it was near here to get the most fans possible. The BBVA bowl we had an impressive fan group that came.

Last year USM went to the Hawaii Bowl after winning the conference. And since this is June's last year to go to the Hawaii Bowl (unless the BE forms an alliance with the Hawaii Bowl) I think we do it. But we have the team to win CUSA regardless of the bowl.
