JJ deserving of a statue? Please. He did his job well up to 3 years ago. Since then, we've been on a decline and it's not getting better. Our recruiting is abysmal; we can't compete against teams in major conferences. We lose kids to UTSA for goodness sake. Our ability to close on someone that has legitimate offers is pathetic - we may have one of those recruits in this years class. It's amazing how much mediocrity is expected for paying a coach $2mm a year and all the support and money that goes to fund the football program. We're going to get throttled next year in the BE. Having him coach another season will just put us deeper in the hole and full on our way to the seasons many JJ supporters think we have removed ourselves from. Jones can't continue to get paid based on past performance. It's time for us to part ways, and expect more.

Did you not say build him a statue? If you want to get personal, I can dish that out as well because it's clear you're either a JJ homer or completely oblivious to our reality as a football program. Last time I checked, he's not gone, so he deserves all the crititism for being a head coach of this program. Also, last time I checked, we're 3-4. It's pretty clear we're not ready to compete against the teams in BCS conferences - look at the loses to baylor, A&M and tc-who. We lost to freakin' Tulane. That is sad. Many fans just want to keep us from being throttled next year and returning to the years of being embarrassed week in and week out. We are not ready to compete from a talent perspective, and we certainly don't have a game plan in place to be able to compete against the talent disparity.

We enjoyed what he did years ago, and we're not a step closer to competing in a legitimate conference. How much longer do you want to keep enjoying what was done years ago. You have a loser mentality from the past 25 years that you cannot move beyond. Many of us have, and we expect more. He's not cutting it. If your face wasn't so far up his [deleted], you might actually see the writing that is on the wall, and which has been for years now.

Years ago? We won a bowl game last year, chief. After years of being very bad, the bottom of the proverbial barrel. As a matter of fact, if you exclude the early 1980's, we've sucked for a very, very long time.

For information purposes only, how do you know that he will be here as long as he wants? Have you spoken with the decision makers (not trying to be sarcastic)?

Who among you was not nervous when Houston scored to cut the lead to 17 with almost the entire 4th quarter left to play? Who among you did not think "Doing what we do," as opposed to running the ball and using the clock, threatened to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory? After several plays with NO ONE in the backfield to even fake a handoff before a pass, I think SMU fans had every right to request that the "offensive guru" and "quarterback genius" June Jones RUN THE BALL. The people I heard asking Jones to do just that were also cheering loudly for the team. Should they be spewing expletives? No. But does supporting the team require them to shut up or leave. NO!

I personally hope June Jones is here for another 10 years IF that means that we are improving, competing and even beating BCS-caliber teams, and winning the games against non-BCS teams that we should be winning (at least 9 out of 10 times). But if he cannot recruit and then coach players such that they are capable of competing against better competition, and winning against equal or lesser competition, then what the heck are we paying $2.1 million for?

I've been to games in SEC, Big 10 and Big 12 stadiums.

The atmosphere is nothing--nothing--compared to SMU's genteel atmosphere.

I got yelled at by a little kid at a Big 10 stadium because I was wearing the visiting team's shirt. It was funny. I didn't feel insulted.

I'd rather our fans be loud and occasionally yell at a coach that's making $2million/year then to tell people to not show up. At least some folks have passion. I hate it when I see folks reading the WSJ, or having a social club meeting at the stadium rather than watching the game.

We need more fans, not less. We need more fans in the stadium, not less. And if folks on here are sensitive about some folks yelling at the coach, then we are not prepared for big time college athletics. Go listen to the UT fans yell about Mack Brown sometime.

I don't actually think that is true. I remember going to one of Bob Davey's last games at ND and there was not the whiney, opinionated stream of abuse. The crowd were far more focused on the team. They wouldn't yell at the coach when putting up a record score, for sure.

I don't actually think that is true. I remember going to one of Bob Davey's last games at ND and there was not the whiney, opinionated stream of abuse. The crowd were far more focused on the team. They wouldn't yell at the coach when putting up a record score, for sure.

I believe there was with Ty Wilingham and to a lesser extent Charlie Wise.
