One of the other threads talks about how SMU's class is actually rated well when compared to CUSA and Big East classes. We have to temper that a bit because offers are really important to pay attention to, and also, schools like Houston have less commitments but a higher average star rating, so at the end of this recruiting season, we could drop a little.
That said, the star inflation seems to be a relic of the past. The last several years, the number of 3 star players has been at the 1500 level. This year, the number of 3 star players is at 1215, which is around the level it was in 2009.In 2007 and 2008 it was below a thousand, so we aren't all the way back yet, but the ridiculousness of the last two years has been scaled back at least...
Just an FYI when evaluating the star rankings...

Re: Rivals star inflation - no more?
if they are that close now they will skyrocket about December and January when they begin their annual upgrades of ratings-which btw they should do. SMU has benefitted more than most from these upgrades in the past. But nobody ever seems to get downgraded. From looking at SMU's list its ridiculous how high many of SMU's recruits are rated without any supporting offers as it has been in recent years. BTW before grade inflation started there were about half the number of 3+ stars so even 3 months before signing date there is obvious substantial grade inflation in comparison to the pre-2008 time period.

I've always wondered why you say we benefit more than most from the upgrades. What makes you say that?

because every year Rivals gives us 6-9 upgrades in ratings throughout the recruiting season-look for them especially in December and January after the season. I think 2-3 of our recruits have already been upgraded

So 6-9 is more than average. Interesting. I wonder why they do it.

Re: Rivals star inflation - no more?
I thought usually those upgrades took place in August/September, not from now to the end...
Re: Rivals star inflation - no more?
I'd be curious to know if recruiters even care or look at stars.
Re: Rivals star inflation - no more?
UCF and Houston commits seem to have alot more BCS offers than the SMU commits. And UCF and Housotn only have about half the number of commits SMU has.

I recall the upgrades happening more in-season than preseason.
