Re: Philly.com: SMU's Larry Brown offers N-G's NewtonBy Michael McAllister
JaQuan Newton is a 6'1" point guard prospect from the class of 2014 from Philadelphia. Syracuse has had good luck recruiting out of Philly lately, with current players Scoop Jardine, Dion Waiters, and Rakeem Christmas, as well as former player Rick Jackson. Coincidentally, Newton attends the same high school that produced both Jardine and Jackson (St. John Neumann High School). The Orange look to potentially continue that lineage with Newton, a 4-star prospect currently ranked as the fourth best point guard in his class. Recently, Nation of Orange spoke with Newton about his game and his recruiting. Nation of Orange: How's your season going so far? JaQuan Newton: It's been going good. I started strong, and my team continues to get better. Nation of Orange: What are your personal and team goals this year? JaQuan Newton: My goal is to win everything again, for a four-peat. Nation of Orange: Describe your game and the type of player you are. JaQuan Newton: I'm a run and gun, fast pace type of player. I like to get in the lane and get my teammates involved. Nation of Orange: What pro player does your game compare most to? JaQuan Newton: Tyreke Evans. Nation of Orange: What schools have you been hearing from as far as recruiting? JaQuan Newton: I have offers from Nebraska, Penn State, Virginia, Villanova, Rutgers, St. Joe's, LaSalle, Temple, Miami, Georgetown, and Arizona. But I've also heard from other schools like Syracuse. Nation of Orange: Do any schools stick out to you at the moment? JaQuan Newton: None really right now. I'm not worried about that. I'm concentrating on my season. Nation of Orange: Regarding Arizona, what are your thoughts on the program and Coach Miller? JaQuan Newton: Haven't really talked to the coach, but they're a good program with history. I think my style of play would fit in well there. Nation of Orange: What about Syracuse? What's attractive about them? JaQuan Newton: I like their program. Boeheim is a good coach overall. I think I'd fit into the zone well. I've played it before, but don't really like it. Nation of Orange: Since you don't like playing zone, would the fact that Syracuse plays it as their primary defense keep you from considering them or change your interest in Syracuse? JaQuan Newton: No, not at all. Nation of Orange: What's going to be the most important factor in choosing where you go to school? JaQuan Newton: Coaching, style of play, gear like what kind of brand you have, and school outside of basketball. Nation of Orange: Will distance from home be a factor at all? JaQuan Newton: No. Distance from home will not factor into my decision.

Re: Philly.com: SMU's Larry Brown offers N-G's Newton
Who's on first?
Re: Philly.com: SMU's Larry Brown offers N-G's Newtoni hate that we went to three straight bowl games and will probably go to a fourth.
Re: Philly.com: SMU's Larry Brown offers N-G's Newtonso we have gone to three average at best bowls, after finishing with average records agasint below average competition? is that the pinnacle of SMU football ambition?
Waaaaay better then we have been, but anyone who is satisfied isnt paying attention to the musical chairs that we are caught up in - we dont have a safe seat and the only way to get one is the beat good teams - which we typically dont do. wont change until we upgrade our recuritng to pull in an average of 3.5 star guys instead of an average of 2.5. (case in point - Larry Brown's recruiting)
Re: Philly.com: SMU's Larry Brown offers N-G's NewtonWe're talking right over the top of each other. Be thankful for what we have. Work for more.
Re: Philly.com: SMU's Larry Brown offers N-G's Newtonwith emphasis on the work for more part.
Re: Philly.com: SMU's Larry Brown offers N-G's NewtonOk, as long as you have both. Otherwise what's striving for?

I think anyone who has been on here for a while knows that freedom of speech is occasionally an issue here; hence the creation of an alternate forum whose name escapes me at the moment... "I don't think anyone around the country has any idea how good we are going to be." - Coach Justin Stepp
