The coaches follow the lead of the HC. He is screwing it up.ender3 wrote:I think I'd rather have Dykes than Kingsbury... it may come down to gambling on Kingsbury before anyone else does. Someone is going to... soon.
SO MUCH is going to come down to choosing/recruiting/paying the staff under the head coach.
June is doing his part, but he isn't screwing this up by himself. Select members of his non-recruiting staff are helping.

9mm or .45
Wishbone or Veer...
The bottom line is we are out of the dumpster, and now need to move to a new, consistent, WINNING model that competes for championships...I am grateful for Coach Jones and the players that resurrected the football program, but the question remains if we can move past this current plateau. If not, then those in positions of leadership have to remain happy with this level of mediocrity, or push for more (with the necessary changes that are implied).
I vote the latter.

I love Kingsbury's attitude. Yes I'd take him.

I think it is not a question of would we? or could we? but will we? Will we get rid of the albatross that refuses to actively recruit and will we make a commitment to move forward and build a top level program? Or will we (the admin) be happy to take the $ from the BE and consistently be at the bottom of the conference with little to no commitment to excellence?

Is KK the best we can do with $2M? Not dissing him. Legitimate question.

IIRC- somebody posted that Dykes was making 750k per yr. We could double that and still be paying a lot less than what we pay tiki god.

Got that. But with our financial resources could we not do much, much better than Dykes or KK?

So who would you get? IMO the list of top level BCS coaches we could get is pretty short. There are always a lot of 'less than desirable' retreads but I don't think that is what we want or need.
Then there are the 'up-n-comers' like Dykes and KK. That is probably our best alternative as I doubt if we can get a high visibility, top level BCS coach even with a large bank roll.

Swagsbury would recruit here pretty well. And I mean recruit fans.

I don't know what he's making at Aggie High, but Kliff Klavin is learning from one of the best offensive coaches in the country and is coaching a quarterback who is going to put up some crazy numbers down there. If he stays to the end of Manziel's career, he'll be able to write his ticket to a lot of jobs. I can't believe he's on the market this year unless Tech comes calling.

I've been telling people for a while, this guy is a rising star. If we got him, probably wouldn't be for long, but that would be a nice problem to have.

Alex, I think fans would more readily accept a coach who came here, worked hard, recruited and built a program and then left for a better job after several years than one who does little, cares little about our university and cares even less about building a program that will survive after he leaves. Helfrich the OC at Oregon should be our next HC, he has sucess everywhere he has gone under whatever job he had. that guy deserves a shot somewhere and I hpe it's us who gives it to him.

He doesn't call plays up there, and I've never heard him mentioned as a great recruiter. Not sure what his appeal is other than being associated with Chip Kelly.
