I know February is a long way off. Dare to dream, I suppose.
I looked him up on-line, and he only had 20 (I think) tackles last year. Does that mean he's the posterchild for the movement to recruit more and more based on physical attributes?
Glad to see him mention us.

Cody rotated with two senior DEs last year. Those twenty tackles are only for 3 games in the playoffs where his full line was as follows:
20 tackles, 7 TFL, 1 sack, 2 tipped passes.
Though if he really runs a 4.5 - 40, wouldn't moving him to OLB make some sense?

the story also indicated that he was showing more interest in TCU and really didn't mention SMU except to say we offered.

Right. If he ends up at another school on that list, I'd hope it would be LSU or Arkansas.
Hell with it - bring him to SMU.

Cody just received an offer to A&M and was very impressed. He mentioned that he has had his offer from SMU since last summer and doesn't sound to excited about us right now.

My sense is that it's really early.

Good thing we're not keeping score. How many commitments anyone has in March doesn't mean a lot. Let's make sure we have some good ones when February rolls around.

No one is keeping score, however, it is 11. Got another WR.

Wow - what a revelation - UT has early commitments and will do better than us in recruiting. What an insight.

the importance of early recruiting will soon be evident. The staffs at UT, A&M, Tech, UH and Baylor have all shown an increased emphasis on early commitments prior to the start of the school year. I predict there will be a new record set for early commitments this year in Texas.

As long as the players who sign with the Ponies make SMU a better team, I couldn't care less when other teams get their commitments. You're right about the trend, Stallion. I just don't see it mattering much. If we sign great recruits in February, the UTs and A&Ms of the world can lock up their 2011 commitments now for all I care. If we get no players with talent, then the other schools can wait until the last second, but we won't be any better. If we had some commitments now, it would give us more to talk about on the recruiting board. Otherwise, I'm not that moved one way or the other by who Coach February has a commitment from at this point.
