2013 QB outlook

Re: 2013 QB outlook
For the most part it is a boring and predictable short pass offense where little receivers like ours get killed trying to make catches. Take a look at Sumlin's offense JJ and diversify your system once and for all-it hasn't worked well or fooled people in a long time. And frankly we need a qb who can move better in the pocket and scramble too like Romo does because our line is never going to be very stable due to the talent we are getting.

Re: 2013 QB outlook
Althought the stats dont indicate this... GG is the best QB we've had since JJ has got here. He's looked good the last 3 games and he can actually scramble and run the football. Part of the reason for his underachieving stats is the play of the wide receivers.
GG should and will remain starter next year. I'm sick of changing QBs and waiting for them to grasp the offense. GG would have 1 year under his belt. Would you really want to throw CP or Burcham into the fire with none under theirs?

Re: 2013 QB outlook
If jj is still here at the end of this year it won't matter who the QB is we will be the BE doormat for the next 4-5 years. It will take a new coach at least 2-3 years to recruit BCS quality players.
If the admin thinks the stands are empty now just wait til next yr and the yr after.

Stat wise GG is nowhere near the best qb we have had under JJ. And if he as you said is the best qb under JJ then that says it all on JJ's ability to build a winning program on a major level.

Re: 2013 QB outlook
Another problem is that jj refuses to let any other QB get experience. When we are way ahead or way behind he should let some of the other QBs play just to get actual game experience. But after all 'we do what we do' so we never have an experienced QB other than the one on the field.

Totally agree-I think JJ is afraid the back up may do better and then he has a dilemma and would have to deal with his critics here and elsewhere.redpony wrote:Another problem is that jj refuses to let any other QB get experience. Re: 2013 QB outlook
The reason it takes QBs so much longer here isn't because of the system it is the players around them. The R&S requires you to have a playmaker at QB and at receiver.
Look at how well Padron did his first year when he had Sanders and McNeal to throw to. As the playmakers have gone away, the ability to generate big pass plays has gone away as well.
Stewart/Joseph/Johnson/Deiter will have more playmaking ability than we have out there right now.

Great point!mrydel wrote:I am talking about the constant harping that it takes 2 years to learn Jones' system. Jones might want to go learn a system that other schools use to beat us with freshmen.JasonB wrote:A&M has two NFL tackles and the TCU oline is good as well. GG had to run for his life against UCF. Sure, he had a couple of errant passes, but most of that wasn't on him.mrydel wrote:Took quite a while for a redshirt freshman at A&M to catch on. Not to mention a redshirt freshman at TCU who was thrown in unexpectedly.

if it doesn't fool us in the stands, it sure won't fool any DCs who get a chance to study it all weel and game plan for it.jimhagle wrote:For the most part it is a boring and predictable short pass offense where little receivers like ours get killed trying to make catches. June told Cassel he'd be the only QB in the class.

I concur but do you really think June would have a shot with that kid even if he wanted him? June is notorious for ignoring top QBs in the state.

I hope you are right about the WR group. I agree that GG has improved as the year has worn on, so I'm all for having an experienced SR QB as long as the other guys stay in the fold. Preston will be a 3rd yr Soph and that gives him a better chance of producing if GG gets dinged. If he's good enough, maybe Burcham slides into the backup role. All I want is soje depth with experience in the program. Just look at what has happened at Maryland this year. You never know what hand you might be dealt

Re: 2013 QB outlook
Didn't read all of this, but JJ said in an interview yesterday that GG has improved and "I LIKE HIM".....which translates to GG will be qb next year, too, unless he does something to make HRH JJ mad.
