LOL you're making my point, your theory that coaches don't get enough time here is ridiculous.

Rossley and Bennett were each given 6 seasons to prove themselves at SMU. Cavan 5, but trended downwards each season until the last year where he slightly improved. Bottom line is none of them got it done at SMU. With the resources Jones has at his disposal there is no reason for SMU not to be able to assume 7 wins with this schedule. A 7-win season would have been obtainable without beating a single team with a winning record. A 7-win season is still obtainable if SMU beats 1 decent team. 7 wins is my minimum requirement for Jones to stay. I'll even let him use the bowl game to get there.sbsmith wrote:PlanoStang wrote:See Rossley, Cavan, Bennett. and Jones if you have your way.
Oh, well that's not even close to us supposedly firing guys after year 5 for not getting to a BCS game. The first 3 didn't even get us to a single bowl and the 4th guy will pretty much have to be let go after we bottom out next year. This certainly won't keep us from getting a good HC.
Actually, Meyers '78 team came within one TD of going to the Peach Bowl(Against TTU). It would have been just 3 seasons and well before the high priced recruiting started.PlanoStang wrote:It took Ron Meyer cheating just to get to the Holiday Bowl after 5 seasons![]()

This ridiculous post, capping a series of amazing ignorant posts, is a classic example of why quality people are bailing on this board for the pay boards.PlanoStang wrote:It took Ron Meyer cheating just to get to the Holiday Bowl after 5 seasons![]()

True. Plus, is it possible that Manziel is in the running for a Heisman Trophy in the years ahead? Yes. I don't suppose he'll win it, but he's going to be in the discussion. I would think Kingsbury would want to ride that out, because if he (Manziel) wins one under Kingsbury, that also means they're winning a lot of games in the process, and a big school might call to tell Kingsbury there's a Brinks truck outside his door.Junior wrote:Are you really arguing that Vince Young and Greg Davis were a failure? So Kingsbury was a "fluke" and/or running "crap" when Coach Sumlin allowed him to call all the plays and Houston had a record breaking 2011 season? Was Kingsbury calling "fluke" or "crap" plays when Houston led the NCAA in yards, points, and virtually every offensive category? Coach Sumlin could have hired a bunch of people to be in charge of his offense at A&M and he choose Kingsbury. Now the Aggies lead the SEC in offense with Kingsbury calling the plays and beat Alabama yesterday. BTW... Kliff Kingsbury was recognized as the 2011 Offensive Coordinator of the year after Houston lead college football, averaging 50 points and nearly 600 yards of offense per game. Kingsbury is a risk SMU should take because he has huge upside potential for us. Watching him and listening to him...he would be very good on the recruiting trail. He has the "cocky" attitude I want SMU to have. If we hired him, people would notice. People would know SMU is serious about taking the next step. Kids would want to play for him. You say it wont win championships, but SMU needs to just win games in the Big East first...CenTXpony wrote:I dont want him.... His offense is based around broken plays and hopes that a defense over pursues a QB scramble so that he can make an easy completion... it's the same crap that Greg Davis ran with Vince Young..that's not a consistent winning strategy... All of this A&M crap is a fluke....It's not a real offense..
As of today SMU is a lower conference school.ozfan wrote:Let me reword this my comment, he has not proved himself at a lower conference school.
