With all he coaching vacancies, is now the right time?
Don't get me wrong, I think JJ should be done with SMU after this season and thanked for getting where we are and remembered for the good he's done.
With it looking likely that there are 4 SEC team (Arky, Auburn, Kentucky and Now Tennessee) looking for new coaches at the end of the season, how does this effect SMU's ability to pull a respectable Coach? Not to mentions coaches on the hot seat like Maryland, Cal and Big10 teams like Purdue, all of who would appear to be better coaching destination, well.. maybe not Maryland.
This has me worried that we could have no choice but sticking with this lame duck head coach for our Big East debut...
Let's not forget the rumor that Fatteron might be the next head coach of Arky.. We could be competing head to head with the froggies for a new head coach. Not an ideal situation.

The problem is if those schools get all the quality coaches this year then who is left to get next year? This would seem to add legitimacy to those who said that SMU should have gotten a new coach last year when Dykes was not being pursued as hard.

There's always a choice, ours needs to be to get a new HC as soon as possible. There's no benefit in sticking with a lame duck.

Quality jobs open up every year. Just last year Washington State, Arizona, UCLA, Arizona State, Fresno State, Colorado State, Texas A&M, Houston, Memphis, Ohio State, Penn State, Pitt, Rutgers, North Carolina, Southern Miss, Hawaii, and probably some I'm forgetting, all had vacancies. You can't let it decide when you fire a coach. If JJ needs to go, the decision to find a new coach shouldn't hinge on who else out there is hunting for a new head coach.

I agree - jobs open every year. I would think CU Boulder too opens

Like everyone says, whether SMU gets rid of JJ this year or next year this is something SMU and other teams will have to deal with.

You only worry about stuff like this if you think your job isn't worth anything. I certainly hope we are past that point now.

Sadly I don't think anyone wants to come here
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

Look we pay our coaches well. We are now not a coach killer school as long as JJ is not fired. If he decides to go drink Mai Tais back on the Islands, that's up to him. If JJ is fired, there will be a lot of coaches who will think that SMU is a coach killer program, especially if we are bowl eligible, and won't come here. The loss to Tulane hurt, but if we beat Rice and then Tulsa we end up 7-5 and that should keep any coaches job especially in a year when we rebuilt the front line and had another new QB. Now if we lose the next two games, and we're 5-7, all bets are off. And yes there will be vacancies. Arkansas, Tennessee, Auburn, Kentucky, Purdue, Iowa, and Colorado, and then the trickle down as coaches move from existing schools to those schools. Like the Duke and Wake Forest coaches probably will get lots of interest. Fatterson will get some SEC looks. A&M will probably break the bank to keep Sumlin. Briles may get some interest as well and I suspect that Auburn and Arkansas pay better than Baylor. I also would not be surprised to see Mack Brown out at Texas. They have underperformed yet another year in the eyes of their alums.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
