This is a playoff?

Post by TWALV33 »

Guaranteed bids to certain conferences?

BE is relegated to the "Group of Five" with C-USA

Whats the difference in nBE and C-USA again?

Wow between JJ's apathy and the downfall of a conference we haven't even joined yet I don't want to know whats next....

Hey Look! SMU might be good a basketball! :D

Group of 5 is guaranteed a BCS bowl and the Big East's new alignment has historically produced the top team from the Group of 5 all but 1 season. No reason to panic. As it stands we have an easier path to a BCS game than TCU. That said, based on recruiting, TCU is more likely to reach its goal.

All in all I really do think the nBE will be fun to watch.

Maybe after all is said and done the conference re-earn a spot at big boys table based on its own merits.

Has anyone heard any news about the TV contract negotiations?

This deal is extremely fair as it basically protects the bowls from having to invite a team like UCONN in 2010, Pittsburgh in 2004, etc. Honestly, it's not so much that the Big East deserves an automatic bid as much as the ACC does not. The ACC should have to earn its bid jut like the Big East. I wold guarantee bids to the Big 4, and have 2 guaranteed bids for the 6 other conferences (Big East, ACC, CUSA, MWC, MAC, SBC).

The whole anti trust thing is nerve wrecking but like Xc stated our conference year by year will be beat the other 4. It's sad that we have to prove that but it is what it is and we just need to dominate. Along with that, teams like SMU who have the OOC schedule like ours need to go .500 or better to help the nBE.

Tv contract is something I have been following. Based on the lack of ESPN news and whatever they do print out is negative I assume they are out of the picture. Fox, unfortunately, I believe has spent their budget on college football which leaves us with CBS and NBC. I assume they will pair up to reduce risk and try to maximize on the hopeful return for this venture. NBC will most likely make the best offer since they have a big budget but since there is lack of competition they are probably asking for less than 10mil (including CBS). Which Aresco will deny and they will keep waiting out til someone puts the right number or is feeling the heat. NBC knows we are desperate so they have time on their side, but the only good thing for us is that NBC wants to be part of the action along with CBS.

XC definitely agree with you on that. ACC has played well in these negotiations to get a hold of an AQ.

Yeah they had a better team all but one season when it was a BCS conference , which it no longer will be, taking away its advantage it had over the other conferences

strength of schedule will be best (hardest) in big east vs the other mid majors, but not by a gigantic margin. I think we have basically joined the version of the mountain west from a couple years ago - slightly best of the non-bcs conferences.

In 3-5 years playoffs will be expanded. It's up to BE to prove it's worth in that time

wow - totally disagree with that one. a big playoff will cement college football as the best thing going - and produce even more money then the meaningless bowl cartel we currently waste our time in.

A 16-team playoff would be a money-making bonanza. Right now the five elite conference members have a fist full of cash and they don't want to share with anyone else. At some point they'll realize that they could have TWO fists and TWO pockets full of cash if they play additional games. It'll come.

16 team playoff makes that Alabama-A&M game, as well as any other regular season game that you want to pick, 100% irrelevant. I am not a fan of a big playoff system because I want to see the team that has had success over the entire year - not just the one that got hot at the end of the season.

Were the giants the best team in the NFL last year? Absolutely not.

Playoffs are entertaining, but they are a horrible way of deciding who the best team is for that season, particularly when there are too many teams involved. 4 teams I think preserves the best of both systems.

Wow, letting teams decide matters on the field (like every other NCAA conference) is "horrible"? Yeah, it is so much better to have a bunch of voters determine it.

Yeah, but a playoff also makes conference championships important. It might also have a proviso that a conference champion does not have an auto bid unless it has at least 12 teams. That would put the Big XII in the need to add a 12th team. Right now K-State (if it can win its next two games) rolls into the championship, as does ND, while Alabama, Oregon, both have to win a playoff game.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
