When people praise the Big East for "getting access" to the playoff system - why are they not praising the MAC, CUSA, MWC, Sun Belt etc.?

The New BE and its member schools have not had the quality wins to be included among the top five conferences.

But the top ranked BE team will almost certainly be guaranteed a place at the table for the top six bowl games.

This is a win for BE, its current/new members and our commissioner. Given our 25 year journey, we should be thrilled. Now, let's take advantage of this gift.

"Got the Big East on the open market for TV negotiations."

Did ESPN just say something from a neutral stance?!!

I was unaware they could actually remove bias from their reporting!

Based on historical evidence, they basically gave the Big East an automatic bid with the caveat that if it doesn't have a very good team in any given season the bid will go to another more deserving team from the remaining 4 conferences that season. This deal protects the bowls from a 2004 Pitt or 2010 UCONN team in the Fiesta Bowl and it protects the Big East from ridicule for sending such teams to BCS bowls.

Historical evidence but that's with a completely different set of teams in the Big East. I also think the bcs really regretted having that tie in in the last few years since they've lost a few of the teams that gave them their original clout. Don't get me wrong, the conference is still better than the others, but I just hope we aren't on a more level playing field with those other conferences now that everything's changed around.

No, the historical evidence is based on the teams that will be in the Big East next year.

The big thing that Aresco did not do is keep the BCS share of the money split the the other 5 conferences will get. He failed horribly in that.

Under the new arrangement, current or future Big East schools would have appeared in an elite-level bowl game in eight of the past nine years (2007 Hawaii is the outlier), and Aresco is confident things will only get better from the competition side of things.

The NBE teams are going to have to do a great job in their non-conference games of beating teams from power conferences to get any kind of national respect.

That is not a comparative statement. I guess the previous schools could have gone 9 out of 9 years.
