What would you prefer him to say? "We're not going to show up next week"?? Of course he's going to talk about the chance for four bowls in a row. He has no other choices.
He's going to say the team has a chance to go back to a bowl game, because it's true, and he has to say that.
"It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses." ... "Hit it."

Does it? Maybe.
Maybe they outcoached us, maybe the players outplayed us. Not to deflate the "June caused all of the world's problems" tirade, but more than likely, it was a combination of both.

Today? No.
Thats all that matters now. I know you disagree with hate. This has been a rollercoaster since the USM game last year. For me, him being fired and getting some balanced offense like Blakenship has would be so much more beneficial to us that anything. We are getting great RBs and yet we hardly utilize them.

From a Rice Fan who was at the game today...what I saw..
a) This was not Rice's Super Bowl. That is arrogant. We had to win to keep bowl hopes alive and we came to play whether it was SMU, UAB, Marshall or whoever..it did not matter.
b) Takeaway the garbage TD at the end-of-game and it was two score game. One score you gave away on Z. Line fumble into the endzone and the other was a TD drop by your WR on a Rice busted coverage. That was the difference. As I said on earlier post(s), it was/is two evenly matched teams and I believe that still to be the case. You made two costly errors and Rice did not make any but overall teams are/were even. I still think we win b/c of the advantage in kicking game but no way is Rice 3TD's better than SMU.
c) Gilbert looked good. Threw a good ball on-target and improves each week w/ his feet. He has improved from earlier in season.
d) Although our first three RB's were banged-up and did not really play, I thought SMU did best job of anyone we played this year (including UCLA, Tulsa, and La Tech) stopping our run. We are a top-30 running team and could get nothing going today. Gameplan was to force McHargue to throw it and you did execute that.
e) Of course I am biased but Rice is a good team. This is not your parents Rice team. That is why so much frustration from Owl fans (and want to fire the coach) of the 5-6 record as many expected this team to contend for C-USA and beat UCLA and La Tech. Rice is finally living up to its potential in last month. Rice is not Tulane. There is talent on the field and probably half dozen guys who will be playing on Sundays. The brand of "Rice Football' is a laughingstock and butt of jokes after decades of bad teams. It is improving and brand should improve in time.
f) I am in the minority on this board but I don't think June Jones lost that game. A couple boneheaded penalties, a drop, and a fumble lost that game. JJ not responsible for any of those. While I think he is overpaid, I do think he has accomplished more than prior coaches have. Question is one of value of ~$2M/year, not on whether he is a good coach. Our coach makes $500K and that is about right for his 'value'
Best of luck against Tulsa. We had them beat and one bad defensive play very late cost us the game.
Will be interesting to see if BE implodes w/ Big 10 going after NY and DC TV markets and swooping in.

He's only kidding. Congratulations to Rice today and good luck.

JJ coaches the players, JJ recruits the players. It all falls on JJ.

Thanks, Rayburn. Should have used the sarcasm emoticon!
Owl40, there's a history of that comment with another school whose coach said that about us. Congrats on the win.
