I don't think an attempt to destabilize, as much as the Big 10 has been holding its membership low because they were waiting on ND. Now they know ND isn't coming, so they are making a move to expand. They are trying to cross timezones and go east, I believe. Trying the Big East theory of spreading timezones in order to get a bigger TV contract.

Sleeper play: - Big 10 does the spread,. gets two eastern teams to join, then talks the basketball teams in the Big East to join for basketball. Big East falls apart, and the leftovers grab the best teams in the MWC and CUSA to form the 6th major conference, and all of the other conferences are left out of the playoff/major bowl system. PAC, BIG 12, BIG 10, ACC, SEC, MWC/CUSA become the major conferences.

It would not surprise me, I'm almost expecting it to happen. I hope it doesn't

Regardless of what happens, we will probably land in the same lifeboat with UCF, USF, UH, etc. Not ideal, but better than UNT, Tulane, and UAB

Even if we get leftover with the BE remains... What kind of tv deal would we even get. Probably something on the same level as CUSA/MWC. I mean NBC still needs a conference but they won't be stupid and pay anything more than 5 mil a team for that setup.

The ONLY scenarios where I see the Big 12 takings us. (face it, we're a package deal apparently)

Scenario 1

-The big 12 expands to 16 and takes Loserville, Cincy, FSU, Clemson, UH and SMU or Loserville, Cincy, Boise, UH, SMU and BYU

Scenario 2

-If KU and KSU leave for the Big 10, and leaves the Big 12 down to 8 teams.

Scenario 3

If Big 12 gains more defections or expands to 16 and they take UH and SMU as a power play move simply to lock other conferences out of Texas.

Scenario 4 (Best chances for everybody)

If whorn, OU, Tech and Ok State go to the Pac-12, leaving 6 teams in the Big 12. That all but assures both UH and SMU a spot.

However, until then. The Longhorn Conference will keep us out for the same reason they listed last year when we were brought up.

Scenario 1 : Big 12 is most likely going to go back to 12 and stop. The ESPN contract allows them to move to 12 and get an increased payout. My gut is that we look for the Big 10 to take Maryland and Rutgers, the SEC to take VT and brand xx, the Big 12 to take FSU / Clemson. I believe this will make the ACC penalty void as they no longer exist.
Scenario 2: Big 10 will not take them...they are all about academics.
Scenario 3: I just don't see it.....low gain.
Scenario 4: Pac 12 will not take OSU and see above scenarios as more likely.

We have to hope BE hold together long enough for us to show a pulse.

I hope the Big 12 expands to, well, TWELVE! K State losing yesterday to Baylor was a pathetic showing for the Big 12 as a conference.

Even if the Big 12 expands to 16 we still won't be getting an invite.

I thought I remember them saying if big 12 expands to 16 they would have negotiated a contract and given us 3rd tier media rights. Maybe I'm wrong but I'm more worried of getting left behind in the future d-1aa. It's reasonable to think its plausible given that thy pretty much locked all the bowl spots to them the AT large spots will just go to their second place conference teams. So that leave 5 conferences to fight for one spot. Basically our champ of div 1aa

We won't get an invite for the big 12 for the same reason KU and KSU won't get invited to the big 10. They already have the region and wouldn't help them land new markets. Expension will focus on crossing time zones. We have a better chance getting adopted by the SEC, ACC, or PAC 12 than the Big 12.

If the Big 12 expands, they'll first look at FSU, Clemson, GT, and Va. Tech. Then Louisville and Cincinnati. We won't be receiving a phone call.

Agreed. I could also see them flirting with Pitt or Rutgers, if some of their first choices fall through.
