SMU Fan Football Experience at Rice-Beat a Dead Horse

Post by PhantomPhi »

Attended the Band Hall presentation on Friday at the Briar Club which was great.
The SMU tailgate was fun.
The weather was great.
The first half had too many dropped passes and passes caught out of bounds along with a terrible coaching decision. Rice played almost a perfect first half .
The Mob had a funny half time show that featured "Beat a dead Horse." How appropriate.
The second half ZL fumble at the goal line was a killer and the team decended into penalties and poor decisions. The same reciever who dropped three passes in the first half dropped another one and ran back two kickoffs not to far from our own 10 yard line. However he did catch one pass for one yard. He was one of many players had a very poor game mentally or physically.
The except for two or three players and a few staff, the team again ran off before "Varsity." This disappointed the fans who stayed until the end. This should not happen again, ever.

Someone please posit the question to Mr. Jones, that when you collect wide receivers like an obsessed stamp collector, why do you refuse to ever play them? Why do you refuse to go to a new receiver when your starting receiver is completely incapable of actually catching the ball, which one might argue is an important aspect of the position? The only conceivable answers are a) none of the other guys can catch the ball; b) I'm too stubborn to do it; c) the offense is too complicated for the guys behind him on the depth chart; d) the current starter gives us the best chance to win. It doesn't matter which answer you pick, it's an utter failure of the coaching staff.
