How Can Rice Look Bigger and More Physical?

They seem bigger on both sides of the ball, they play with more passion. AND, surprise!...they have a big physical tight end tearing us up, something that June does not even understand...

Just embarrassing...June should have never been allowed to come back and coach...he is just going through the motions and so is this team.

I am done with this cruddy offense, this cruddy effort, this cruddy coach.

Welcome to the Big East...Hell, Rice deserves it better than us, at least they have a good baseball team.....

we're just a few more years away guys. be patient. this offense is very complicated.

We were about as flat as we can play. Coaches just did not have them ready.

We have gotten much bigger and more physical over the past couple years and expect to be better here given only 8 guys on the team are Seniors and another year of weight room and development for most all of the redshirted guys. We now average ~300lbs up-front and receivers and RB's look more like prototype size/speed guys you would expect at any D-1 program.

One thing that Bailiff (Rice Coach) has done well is recruit. He is lifetime Texas guy w/ strong ties to Texas HS coaches (esp in San Antonio) and been recruiting in Texas since days as DC at TCU and head coach at Texas St. I think for any Texas team to be successful with now 11 FBS programs just in Texas and not to mention all the other teams who come in-state to recruit requires those personal connections at the HS level. I don't think JJ has that or wants that and it is a problem for SMU.

Rice has almost opposite problem as SMU. With Bailiff, you have a guy who is enthusiastic, loves Rice, embraces the traditions, willing to roll-up his sleeves and get out and recruit, etc. but the wins have not yet followed.

Most would argue this has not happened b/c he does not hold his players accountable, get in their face enough, etc. and also b/c he is not a good game day X's and O's coach. He frequently gets 'out adjusted' within the game and calls a conservative game, especially when most think Rice guys should be able to adjust and 'outsmart' others on X's and O's. This has infuriated the fan base on game day as off-the-field so many good things have happened. He has saved his job w/ performance in last two weeks. JJ is a better and smarter game day coach but you need more than that.

It's pretty simple, we give no effort in recruiting and end up with a bunch of low-ceiling 1-AA recruits that it would take a miracle worker to turn into legit D-1 players (June thinks he's one but he's not).

good info on Rice and Bailiff, but JJ really hasn't shown he is much of a game day coach either. He has made many questionable decisions this year that has cost us games; e g taking the penalty after stopping y'all in third down then y'all hit on the second shot at third and 20 or continually throwing long on third and short.

JJ has made a ton of dumb decisions, but any coach in the country would have accepted that penalty in that situation. It pushed them out of FG range. You have to believe your D can get a stop on 3rd and 20. Hindsight is 20/20 and it didn't work out- but that was not a questionable decision.
