june has two more years on his contract. If he gets fired that is a cool 4.6 million. If any of you wants to write the check to speed this up, feel free to contact the President"s office, or any of the trustees on the athletic committee.

Assuming there are crickets now chirping, we have one more year to suffer through with June unless he quits. If he is sick of us then that rumored 1M pay off might come into play, but short of that i think we have another year and it might be a rough one.

Hart doesn't have the the tenure yet to be able to walk into RGT's office and say lets spend 4.6 Million to get back to 0, then pay another 2Million a year for 5 yrs to replace him.

In other words, you're hoping SMU loses.
Hell of a "thank you" to the seniors who helped take this team to three (or hopefully four) bowl games.

This is so sad because by the time JJ goes naturally, there will not be enough scraps to piece together a football program. We are not going to a bowl--get over it.

It shouldnt be 4.6 million. It would be pro-rated for this year plus the 2.2 million. Yes thats alot of money, but SMU can open a short term debt kick him out, and get a new coach. Use the CoC money and whatever BE money we get to cancel out the ST debt. Since SMU is a non-for-profit, they probably could get a favorable interest rate. Heck I think COC would give them a loan now just to get rid of him.

If one were to hope SMU loses its only because of JJ. Im hoping that our senior play a hell of a game and get NFL looks so they can be rewarded that way.

I think everyone understands the situation; however, SMU simply does not have the $$$ to get rid of JJ until his contract is over. The Beast $$$ will not initially solve the problem as the athletic department is losing roughly $10 mil. per season.

So the alternative that the university wants is to return to winning one or two ball games a year for the next several years. That will really build the Dallas fan base.
In actuality it will probably cause some of the hard-core long time pony fans to abandon this program and not return.

I dont understand how are running a deficit of 10 million??? Is it because of the other sports programs. I can see travelling expenses will be brutual in the Big east if we dont get a good contract.

I suspect part of that is the 'cost' of the scholarships which of course is not an actual cash expense.
Are the maintenance costs of the athletic facilities included in that or are they included with all of the other facilities?

So the CoC gives June an unprecedented salary for a mid-major coach and that salary is basically what will kill the program again? That is so SMU.

You are making my point. It is more important for the future of our program to pay the buyout and get rid of JJ than to "save money" in the short term. I feel RGT thinks like you and will not spend what it takes to truly be committed. It is short-sighted. What would TCU do?

To all you people who say "why don't you write the check", you are part of the problem. I'm not running a Div 1 football program. If you're going to run a D1 program, do it right. Doing it right means being successful and winning. As much as I hate to say it, TCU is the model and a shining example of what a commitment to winning can do. RGT has failed SMU in this regard.

There is no shame admitting our rival has a better model than us. Its the only way to make the change needed to this program.

Nice job of trying to turn my words around. How is your reading comprehension??? What I said was returning to one or two win seasons for the next several years will kill the program by returning it to an embarrassing program. The casual Dallas fan will not be supporting us and we will also probably lose some of the long-time hard core fans that have supported this program for years.
That has nothing to do with how much we pay our inept coach.

I was actually agreeing with you. I find it funny that the CoC put up the money to bring June in to turn around the program but won't pay the money to buy June out and prevent him from ruining it. The damage done to this program will be a lot more than the 4.6 million dollars they won't spend (unfortunately they won't realize it until the damage is already done).
