RIP Big East: Hello Sun Belt/CUSA/MWC Super-Alliance

Post by StallionsModelT »

Maybe we can play a video montage of SMU's best moments in the Big East. I nominate the following:

1. Press conference on campus right before Marianatto had his head served up on a platter.
2. Screenshot of speculation that BE would add SMU, Houston, and Boise State on ESPN.

Anyway, so what will our new conference look like? Probably a totally new conference made up of the following broken up into regional divisions:

East Division - ECU, Temple, UCF, USF, So Miss, La Tech, Tulane

West Division - SMU, Houston, Tulsa, Nevada, Boise State, SDSU, Fresno State
Back off Warchild seriously.

SMU football has about a 5-7 year shelf life at this moment. The university will not throw millions to be affiliated with those schools.

It was 25 years too late SMU. You get what you deserve.

Hahaha! This is great.

At least if we combined the MWC/MAC/WAC/Sun Belt/CUSA/BigEast the superconference might have a BCS caliber team every year. All those conferences individually don't have a prayer in Div-1A (including us.)

Rumor has it that BYU, SDS and BSU are in talks to go back to the MWC. I'd probably stick with the BE since we'll also get the hoops cash and they'll still have 5 or 6 invites every year to the dance which of course means a ton of money. Football for BE would likely be (depending on SEC/ACC reactions of course), SMU, UH, Temple, Navy, Cincy, USF, UCF, Memphis and (either UL or UConn). So, we'll be fine. We'd have a market in Philly, DC, Cincy, Dallas, Houston, Orlando, Tampa, and Memphis and either NY/Louisville in football. In hoops, no problem even with a LU or UConn defection. The ACC has to consider whether it wants any more good hoops teams. They already have a good line-up and may not want to make the road harder for other teams. The other problem is UConn, UL, and Cincy are not schools on an academic par with UNC, Duke, WF, and UVA. And they may not be good enough to entice Clemson and FSU to stay if the Big XII or SEC come calling. The next two weeks are going to be interesting.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

I would love to see Syracuse retract its exit to the ACC and stay in the Big East! That way both leagues would be balanced.

that story was 'broken' by ESPN in a play to devalue the Big East as they continue to negotiate a TV deal.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

dutch- you are probably correct. In a recent article SDS said they have had no contact with the MWC. They also stated that they had talked with BSU and were informed they also had not had any contact with the MWC.

If the BE continues to lose schools we could probably pay jj's buyout just out the funds received from the buyout penalties.
