I was and it was great. Moody was packed. The basketball team lost to Georgetown by 1 point in the tournament and went on to win the Championship. Football was top 10 even after the Pony Express left. Top 20 in Soccer Tennis Track and Swimming. We really were top 25 in everything we did back then.

The only bad thing was we expected it to always be that way. Which makes the last 25 years all the more difficult to stomach. Successive administrations killed a very good thing.

Obviously Texas, UCLA, UConn and A&M should fire their coaches.
Imagine losing to a less talented team...

Football was one of the true national powerhouse programs and basketball was top ten in the nation.

I'd have given anything to be a student back then.

I started at SMU in 86 expecting to see us play for a National Championship before I graduated. My first year, we were still going pretty good (despite being on probation) and had a full house at Texas Stadium for the A&M game. After losing that game, David Stanley went on Channel 8, the investigations started, the team quit on Collins, I ended up building homecoming floats for two soccer games, and our only wins my senior year were against Uconn and UNT.

Worst of all, my sister went to Notre Dame where they won a title before she graduated.

After graduation, I went to UT during the McWilliams/Macovic era/debacle.

So it's your fault.

My years were 85-89. Ouch.

Chaminade has traditionally been known as a giant killer.

I know what you are trying to imply but it is not that same as losing to Tulane and Rice in the same year. At any rate, let's keep this section about hoops.

That is at least the 3rd huge upset by Chaimande in that tournament. Before SMU didn't they upset No. 1 Virginia with Ralph Sampson. Yep considered one of greatest upsets in College Basketball history

Chaminade will get an upset from time to time, but they are 7-78 in Maui.

It's a bad week for Texas fans. Chaminade and TCU losses within days.
