2013 Depth Projection

Post by Stallion »

A month until the Bowl Game and the Coaches will be having a mini-spring practice so time to look ahead. Its been a long time since there have been so many questionmarks but who are the redshirts and back ups who project as starters. I kind of think our competitiveness depends on who steps forward at the 6 DE/OLB/MLB positions and there are some young, untested guys who have some athleticism. Honestly, I don't even know what exact positions some of these guys will eventually fill so I'll group them expecting some shuffling:

WRs (desperately need for several kids to develop here-and I very worried about Receiver)
Jeremy Johnson
Derik Thompson
Kennum Holman
Darius Joseph
Gehrig Dieter
Arrius Holleman
Daijuan Stewart
JaBryce taylor Fr
Jeremiah Gaines Fr. (possible utility back)

Tackle:
Ben Gottschalk
Kris Weeks
Seaver Myers
Taylor Reich
Stavion Lowe

Guard:
Kris Weeks
Ben Hughes
Jordan Favreau
a bunch of redshirts

Center
Collin Laseki

QB
Garrett Gilbert
Connor Preston
Neal Burchum
Kolney Cassell

RB
Traylon Shead
Rishard Wimbley (or move to NG)
K.C. Niemchi
Prescott Line
Williams

Defense: More Interesting here

DE
Zach Wood
Beau Barnes
Jarrett Spencer
Cameron Smith
Christian Holloway-I never heard anything definitive on his status-think I went on vacation
Ellie Nabushosi
Robert Sands DE or LB?
Lincoln Richards DE or LB?

NT
Darren Wright
Nick Reed

LBs (could be a lot of switching between Inside and Outside so I'll group-should be very interesting)
Stephon Sanders
Kevin Pope
Randall Joyner
Brandon Henderson
Robert Seals
Lincoln Richards
Jonathan Yenga
Damion Neroes
Derek Longoria
Freshman: Nick Horton and Derrick Moore

CBs
Kenneth Acker
J.R. Richardson
Chris Parks (or move to Safety)
Ajee Montes
Rodney Hurlbut
Horace Richardson

Safety
Jay Scott
Shakiel Randolph
Ryan Smith (can he get extra year-I can't remember
Jeremy Gray
Hayden Greenbauer
Daniel Roundtree
A.J. Justice

I think you mean Zach Wood at DE. His father was a NTSU OT in 1980 (6'3", 237# and by the way from Conway AR).

I didn't see Dietter listed. Something happen to him? And same for Wimbley. Is he gone too?

I doubt Smith can get another year. He played a bunch of games before he got hurt but who knows?

I watched Yenga as the gunner on the punt team. He is big and strong and very fast. Tulsa had to put two blockers on him cause the pencil neck they tried to block him with was wholly inadequate. This guy has speed and size and I am excited to see him develop.

I think we drop off at back some but all most guys got some experience.

OK, I already hacked off the basketball fans so let me add to my string and hack off the football fans.

I am excited about Jones coming back cause I want to see what Garrett can do with a full season, spring and time to work with receivers.

I know many are for drastic changes with coaching and the QB but I think there is incredible potential for both next year. Garrett could be a beast in the Big East. He is fast, ungodly tough, and improving with his reads.

We need the extra practice to be sure. But we also need some guys to get bigger and stronger in the off season. And if so, we could be tougher than expected.

Forgot Nick Reed at NT. It should be expected that we challenge for the west div title in the BE imo.

Does Dieter stay or does he transfer? He can't be too happy with his very limited to non-existant playing time this year.

Correction: His playing time will be non-existent next year if he transfers. Run n Shoot is especially complicated for the receivers and Dieter is a 3-star true freshman. I'm excited to see him in an increased role next year

I would really like the wide receiver spots next year to open up for competition. If we get a new coach, I would expect the new coach to maximize the potential of the receivers on our roster better than June, as sad as that sounds.

Kyle Guinyard should definitely be in the mix at receiver.

Projected 2 deep . . . Jay Scott isn't a senior? . . .

WRs (desperately need for several kids to develop here-and I very worried about Receiver) - AGREED, but we have a lot of talent here . . . would like to see a 2 deep rotation . . . we have the depth there now especially with Taylor and Gaines (and Stewart) . . .

Jeremy Johnson
Derik Thompson
Darius Joseph
Gehrig Dieter
Daijuan Stewart
Keenan Holman
Arrius Holleman
JaBryce taylor Fr
Jeremiah Gaines Fr. (possible utility back)

Tackle:
Stavion Lowe
Ben Gottschalk
Kris Weeks
Seaver Myers
Taylor Reich

Guard (the biggest question mark on the OL):
Kris Weeks
Ben Hughes
Jordan Favreau
a bunch of redshirts

QB
Garrett Gilbert
Connor Preston
Neal Burchum
Kolney Cassell

RB
Traylon Shead
Rishard Wimbley (he should move to NG)
K.C. Niemchi

Williams

Defense: More Interesting here

DE
Christian Holloway
Cameron Smith
Jarrett Spencer
Robert Seals
??

NT (we SO need someone to step up here)
Darren Wright
Zelt Minor?
Nick Reed

LBs (could be a lot of switching between Inside and Outside so I'll group-should be very interesting)
Stephon Sanders
Randall Joyner
Lincoln Richards
Jonathan Yenga
Derek Longoria
??

CBs
Kenneth Acker
J.R. Richardson
Chris Parks (or move to Safety)
Ajee Montes
Horace Richardson

actually I like some of these LB, OLB and DE prospects. That's one area where I had hoped we got some great prospects. Not much playing time behind Reed, Davis, Hunt and it makes sense to redshirt guys behind them. Hopefully, several of them will break through.
