Re: The Jaw Dropping SMU/NCAA Stat
Kinda fits with our record. New O line and loss of key receivers and a brand spanking new QB added up to Offensive issues. Especially early.

Not really that jaw-dropping, we're right at the bottom with the rest of the teams that have mediocre talent and coaching.

Re: The Jaw Dropping SMU/NCAA Stat
wonder what our QB rankings have been over this period.
Re: The Jaw Dropping SMU/NCAA Stat
Wow, the best season was the one season where Kyle Padron took all the starts. Thank god we unloaded that guy.Stallion wrote:From smumustangs.com

2008 - BLM (98)
2009 - BLM/Padron (51)
2010 - Padron (33)
2011 - McDermott (58)
2012 - Gilbert (95)
Might make it even more interesting if you note the top WRs by year...consider that in 2009 and 2010 we had Beasley, DJ3, and Robinson, and in 2009 we had Sanders and Wilkerson as well.
Beasley, DJ3, and Robinson were responsible for nearly all of the production in 2010, and let's face it - DJ3 did NOT live up to expectations this year.
The key issue with this offense is the lack of quality at the WR position...we all saw it with the terrible drops, giving up on plays, not fighting for the ball, etc. Gilbert was bad at times but particularly in the TCU game I think a lot of his troubles started when he got frustrated and started forcing throws because WRs weren't making the easy plays and he was trying to do it all.
When it comes down to the problem, I think it's pretty easy to hit on recruiting as the problem...Jones had problems at time at UH, but he virtually always had WRs that could catch and make plays. He's just mad he can't hit the California penal league to find players anymore.

Re: The Jaw Dropping SMU/NCAA Stat
just did a search for Padron-looks like he earned back his starting jobs several games ago and finished strong. 70% completions for his last 3 games and very high QB rating in last 6 games

That has to be SMU BS when we hired JJ, right?Stallion wrote:From smumustangs.com

It's sad that we are 96th in rushing average when we have a running back like Zach Line. He deserved a lot more carries.
