Now if you want to come back to this theory in a few years when we've had some nationally-ranked football teams, played in some big bowls, regularly sell out Ford, and have made a few NCAA tourney runs in BB, it might hold a little more water. But conferences like the PAC don't pluck small mid-major programs with a minimal fan base and mediocre athletics out of thin air and invite them to the big party. If SMU truly wants to leverage Dallas, its going to have to show that it can actually make Dallas notice what's happening on the Hilltop. Right now SMU is a total zero to about 98% of DFW. Larry Brown just might be the first step in changing that. June, for all he's done here (which is considerable), has failed to move the needle.
For all the **** I have given June this year, I'd say he has moved the needle. SMU stories appear on the radio, tv, and newspaper with much more regularity than before. Sure, it's nothing ridiculous like the attention TCU has gotten, but it's gotten significantly better.
Anyway, with that said, rumors from other boards state that SMU, Houston, Boise State, and SDSU are in talks with as many as 3 other BCS conferences. I said it in a joke in another board, but how funny would it be if the PAC just grabbed those 4 schools. They get to grab the top non-BCS teams from their region while expanding into Texas. It wouldn't happen for many reasons, but it isn't completely absurd either.
