If the PAC is our end-game, would it help to look West?

So now the Big East added Tulane and ECU. Rumors are that all three of BYU/AFA/Fresno State declined invites to the Big East (I can't blame them). I ask, if the PAC is our end-game, and many believe it is given the fact that they at least showed some interest recently, then why not look west towards the MWC? Imagine SDSU, Boise, AFA, Fresno, UH, SMU, and a few other good teams in the MWC, that's a good league in both basketball and football. SMU would play in California multiple times, we'd have a better chance of building up our profile over there (keep in mind SMU recruits a ton of students from California). If we can somehow get our collective **** together in football, go to the MWC and win and create athletic and academic ties to California, we would be an obvious expansion target for the PAC down the road.

Eh, maybe I'm just rambling.

The east coast use to be and I assume still is the major sports media stronghold. One of the problems we had when we were in the WAC was the late night games when we played away games against teams located on the west coast. Half the country or more was asleep by the time the games were over.

I'm not talking about PAC expansion in 2012, or 2013. I'm talking about years down the line assuming SMU can fix their **** in football and attendance. Big IF I know.

I hear ya. If you would have told me TCU would end up in the Big-12 five years ago, I would have rolled on the floor laughing. If there's one thing I've learned from realignment, its that almost anything can happen. But SMU to the PAC is a particularly unlikely scenario for a variety of reasons, only one of which is football attendance.

The PAC sees itself as a collection of major research institutions. What that really has to do with football I don't know, but it makes them feel better about themselves. We don't fit the profile.
